Whos the band or singer that you think that it's time they hung it up and retired? I'd say about half of the 80's bands still out there, half of the 50's acts, and a whole lot of Country singers and bands.

as long as they are physically and mentally capable of playing music and enjoy it...why should they retire?

If they're out there making big money instead of posting on the web, why should they retire? :?

There's a lot of acts i'd love to force to retire. Regardless of age. But then there'd be less for me to moan and rant against :P

LA Guns: Currently, they have split into two seperate factions, EACH of which tours as LA Guns. The LA Guns lineup that is without the original lead singer hired Marty who came in second place on the "Rockstar: INXS" reality TV show. Remember him?

LA Guns was never good enough to merit still playing as LA Guns based on their '80s merits, let alone to have two lineups of them.

My old band opened for the better half a few years back before I joined.

I thought and still do think Chinese Democracy is amazing. Anyone who was expecting another Appetite for Destruction from a 47 year old multi-millionaire is kidding themselves. Just go listen to AFD if thats the way you feel.

Just my 2 cents.

Although I think they all are embarrassing to look at and many to a large extent, outright pathetic to look at, I figure, why not? If they can continue to make BIG bucks doing what they love coupled by the fact that they probably couldn't earn a living any other way, more power to them.

I personally retired from playing the rock scene when I began looking more like a lumberjack and less like the emaciated space rat of days of yore. YMMV.

i would agree, if they still sound like they did why should they retire, though, i do love the Stones but they do kinda need to give it up. I mean they're as old as the pyramids. Bands should also give up if it's not the original line up (Lynyrd Skynyrd) I mean don't stay together if its just the bassist and the 2nd drummer.

I may also get some crap for this (and I honestly still love these bands)but I'll say "with all due respect" in advance for the following rambling opinion....

I think Queen is just about done...Freddie is gone, that's all I am gonna say.

Bad Religion....you can only make the same album 16 times and then you have said all you can.

The Misfits......without Glenn Danzig and the rest Jerry Only needs to go home.

The Rolling Stones....they made some bad money decisions in the past so they may be trying to cash in for retirement???!?!?!?

If they can still all get away with it then who am I to say whatever...good for them . It's just not the same.

as far as the stones go i disagree with several of you. i have seen them in 1981, 1994, 1996, 2005 and 2006.

the last two times they were as good are better than my first three times. mick was moving around like a twenty year old...infact all of them had alot of energy and they put on a great show and sounded great.

should chuck berry hang it up? how about little richard, or fats domino...jerry lee lewis, willie nelson, eric clapton, jeff beck, how about x or social distortion, or henry rollins how about loretta lynn, nick lowe or neil young.

as long as these people want to make music and are having fun why shouldn't they play as long as they want?

I agree completely. I saw the Stones on two of their last three tours. I'm too young to have seen them in their heyday, but I've watched plenty of old concert footage. It's my opinion that -- as a live act, at least -- they're actually better now than they were in the 60s and 70s. Which makes sense, if you think about it -- they've had a couple extra decades now to hone their chops! (Now songwriting is another matter altogether -- they probably haven't made an album worth buying in over 25 years).

I have no problem with bands playing together and touring until they're all six feet under. Les Paul was playing live every week until just months before his death at the age of 94! Louis Armstrong was performing almost right up until he died at the age of 69. If musicians are capable of putting on a good show and entertaining people, and they enjoy doing it, should they stop just because they've reached a certain age, or have been around for a certain amount of time?
