Hi wilburcook: this is in fact a perfectly serious reply, not just silly dreaming.

Not a bass player as such, but I already have a nice Jazz Bass, for tracking. And yet - it doesn't sound jazzy enough in certain ways to my taste. So at some point I plan the following project build:

# A thinline style body, with enough chambering and a thin enough spruce top to give a helping of acoustic bass sound, unplugged. Maybe an archtop type construction would do that even better.

# A fretless neck with an ebony 'board, for an upright bass sort of vibe.

# A magnetic pickup or two, but also a piezo, again for the acoustic jazz sound. The piezo could be blended or run on its own.

# Flatwound strings.

# All built on a platform that essentially looked like a J-Bass.

Whatchathink?

Cheers - C
