I'm selling a Music Man guitar for our keyboard player on ebay. I got a question about the frets that I'm not sure about. I can't say I've seen this before. The frets look almost brass colored. But when I look at them, it looks like it's coated with something. It's hard for me to get a pic of it, but it does show up in this pic.

Anyone know what this might be? Is it a type of fret, or maybe just coated with something that'll eventually just wear off after playing for a bit.

Coated with the finish.

there are Titanium frets out there that come in gold color...I am not aware That ernie ball has ever used anything other than good old Nickel Silver frets though....got me, unless the guitar has had a fret job done on it...

Lots of guitars have that tint to the frets. I suspect its from the lacquer being sprayed after the guitar is fretted. In which case it shows that the guitar hasnt been played much. A good selling point.

Cool! Thanks for the replies. Yea, I doubt it's gold titanium. That just sounds too expensive for a guitar won in a contest. The guitar probably hasn't been played more than 3 times. My keyboard player never played it, and I played it once just to test it before selling. I have enough guitars around here to mess with.

Thanks again guys.

Which would explain why the finish has not worn off yet.

my acoustic guitar's frets have a bronze tint to them. my strat is all nickel tho, but its still new. my acoustic has been played at LEAST 3x/week for 2 1/2 years now.

heres something off topic. the salesman told me it was an ebony fretboard. about 6 months later the 'ebony' was rubbing off on my fingers. conveniently enough, the shop quit selling Alvarez products and now sell ibanez. hmm..... so now my once thought high end guitar actually looks cool... the 'ebony' has been removed but only where i play, so in almost no time at all, its looking VERY worn in.
