Back to the subject: From Jimi...to Stevie Ray...to....hmm, that's funny, the genius and enduring legend seem to stop there. Oh well, that's what tribute bands, MP3s and DVDs are for. Wave your freak flag high, Johnny!

I must agree, there does seem to be a hint of jealousy there... :D

I'm not the least bit Jealous. I'm down right Envious. He's played with All My childhood Heros, and Two of the best backing band members in the business,(Paladino and Jordan) and his credentials are questionable at best. I wouldn't be jealous at all if he were playing with Justin Timberlake, or Nickleback. But does he have to play with Buddy Guy.

I'm half kidding, of course.

I'll repeat this again: John Mayer is an amazingly talented and skilled guitarist (two different things), I like to listen to him play (long as he doesn't try to sing). And some of his tunes are clever and ok I guess--if I was a 14 year old girl I'd probably like em a lot more. Mayer has no attitude, he has a great sense of humor about stardom, he knows it's all crap and hoopla. To his great credit he doesn't take himself too seriously.

But once we start talking eternal legends of the genre, that's a WHOLE nuther ballgame. That's all I mean to say. There is Jimi and Stevie. And Jimi and Stevie. And other greats of course, but it's a very elite company of gifts from god, not to be trifled with.

Yeah to me, there's this nice guy talking to the crowd, intelligent, funny, witty and a guy who speaks like a normal kid from the 'burbs. But as soon as he starts singing, he goes into this whole other crazy persona, and starts in on this bizarro speech-defect thing while he does those face contortions. To me it comes off annoying and distracting, if not entirely phony, but some folks just eat it up. At least it keeps the Two Rock company in business.

Heheh oh yeah, it's a form of acting I guess. It's a role that works for him, no arguing with success. Otherwise he'd just be a poor shmuck like the rest of us having to play through plebian Fender amps. I'd rather play Fender and be myself tho. Sounds like a new ad campaign!

Jeff Beck's the best art rock blues-rock-fusion-jazz guitar player of all time, creating unique sounds that Clapton for one says are nearly impossible to match. In addition, I've got a bad case of GAS for his Beck Artist Series guitar, imho the best non-Custom Fender guitar. Hendrix was a musical songwriting and production genius, but can he play note for note with BB King in full fury and youth or Eric Clapton? SRV was a fast and furious master of throwback rockin' blues - but could he slide like Duane Allman?Eric Clapton is such a great musciian and highly polished guitar whirlwind that he's criticized for lacking style but note-for-note and across many styles can play like few ever will, and has written timeless songs as well . . . the great Blues artists such as BB King, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters perfected the form and brought soul and personal expression into the music, and could play note for note with most anybody . . . and then there's John Mayer. Mayer can play, has a great tone, he's made some money now, and nobody knows what he will do before he's through.

I didn't realize the Beck Artist guitar was not a Custom Shop product. Love the surf green!
