Iceland doesn't even have a military, so I have not served. Closest things we have to a military is the Coast Guard and the Viking Squat (Police SWAT team). The Ministry of foreign realations also has a civilian Peace Corp. program and everyone who joins that will get basic military training from the Norwiegian army.

Iceland use to have a defense contract with the US but Bush jr. cancelled that contract. Now Iceland has a defense contract with some Nato nations (Denmark, Norway, Canada?, Germany, France and UK) that will temparaelly take responsibility for air defense.

The former US naval base / airport in Keflavik, is now a college communitiy. There is also a new radio station operating from the area called Kaninn (the yankee) but that is what Icelanders used to call the radio station that the army operated in Keflavík and was the first radio station in Iceland to play Rock 'n' Roll and was a huge influence on the Icelandic Flower generation. So thanks :D

A heartfelt THANK YOU to all past, present and future members of the armed forces. My dad who passed away recently was at Normandy. Before I left for work this morning I took a look at that flag and one of his medals and thanked him. I alway's made sure my daughters called him on Veteren's Day. So thank you guys and gals again.

I never served, but my father was in the Army. To all of you guys and gals who did serve or are currently serving, you are the true heros.

From one vet to another, my condolences for your loss. It's such a shame that someone who protects the rights and freedoms of others is taken away from us by something like this.

What a ship that is too! CVN 65 - I know a guy who works for a company that cleans the nuclear reactors on that supership. Of course it's all done with robotics, but what a special ship!!!
