We're doing well here, growing steadily. But what would you suggest to make this forum become THE go-to place for all Fender and even non-Fender fans and players? A few ideas:

1) Expand the hours

2) Even more involvement from Fender insiders: more inside info, and even plan a live chat with product development/Fender skunkworks folks

It would be cool and fitting that THIS place was where Fender announced its new products first--such that everybody had to monitor this forum to watch for new stuff. Much the way Line 6 uses Vettaville sneak peek its new gear. As it is, I had to learn about the new XD series from a certain other site that must never be mentioned. That shouldn't happen--THIS is the premiere Fender location, and it should logically have favored nation status.

Yes, it would definitely help if it was open during the hours I was awake!

It's the only forum I know of that closes

Well you can understand this being Fender's own branded site, they have to keep things moderated, and Brad needs to have a life! I mean, you look at some place like Gearwire or something and it's half teeny flamers and potty-mouthed 11-year olds. That's what you get without moderation.

Fender just needs to pay somebody else to spell Brad in the off-hours. I'd say expand to 10 MST weekdays and at least Saturday 8:30 to 5:30 MST.

I think we all need to be thankful that Fender is at least providing something like this for the fans to come together and talk. They really don't have to do this and their definetly not getting anything out of it.

This forum has been a long time coming and it's finally here. I remember the other Fender forum that was fan ran (I think) was the only place to talk Fenders, but that place was crazy, it was too hectic and just one big mess. It got to the point where they wanted to make you pay for things like posting pictures and having avatars and stuff. You couldn't even join unless they could verify your email address, no yahoo.coms, no hotmail.coms. Your out of luck if you don't have an email from your service provider. What a joke, hehe.

I'm happy with this place and waiting patiently for the longer hours. It's also cool that you can talk to a Fender employee every now and then, that sure as hell don't happen very often on other forums.

Actually Fender employees jump in quite a bit on the "other' forum, at least as much as in this one. But I agree about the pressure over there to pay, pay pay or you'd get banned for sneezing. It reminded me of being in Sunday school with the nuns. Gitmo thought police patrolling at all times, ready to slap hands with rulers.

I really appreciate Brad's latitude with issues and opinions.

I mentioned this yesterday in our "100,000 member celebration" thread, but to quote that directly: I'm planning to post a survey reasonably soon regarding the forum hours issue and that'll give all of ya'll a chance to give me some more organized feedback on the issue. Hang tight!

I would like that some Fender people could answer questions about woods
being used, pickup specs and questions about hardware, is US vintage
different then MIM classics or Custom shop.

Running a web forum is a very labor intensive undertaking. I am a moderator on another forum and it takes up a fair amount of time even though I'm not doing any of the administrative stuff! So, I appreciate very much what the people here at Fender are doing for us.

That said, there are a few things that would make it more interesting.

1) "Inside Fender" posters. Have one guy on the inside share some info
and interaction with us, the people who play their instruments. Just one week a month, and make it a different person each month.

2) Start a gallery where users can post photos of their own modified Fenders as well as custom made guitars. People love to modify and build guitars and personalize them to their own liking. Let 'em show their stuff! It encourages interaction, a sense of community, and gives Fender Corporate a free glimpse into the minds of the people who buy and play their instruments. It's all good.

3) Don't knuckle under to the "Hall Monitors" of various brands who
complain about people modifying or building their own guitars. Other websites don't bow down to these fanatics, neither should Fender. As long as no one is selling anything there's nothing to get upset over. Endorsement is neither implied or expressed. There's so much to be learned and shared from eachother.

4) Run small programs with prizes to incite participation among the forum members. A little trivia contest once a week. A chance for 12 people to win a tour of the Custom Shop. The creation of a forum specific Stratocaster model available only to members with more than 100 posts.

5) Poster recogintion. Just pick someone once a month who has truly helped the forum along by sharing their knowledge with others, or exhibiting extreme patience when answering the 'ol "Rosewood vs Maple" question, or someone who is just plain helpful on a daily basis to others.

6) Create a "Gigging Forum" for those who either earn a living with Fender
instruments, or those who are serious amatures. Here they could share their knowledge and experience with those who are getting ready to start gigging.

7) Have a famous Fender artist write a brief column once a month sharing their experiences on the road with Fender gear and perhaps give us the inside scoop on some music biz hub bub. Have them be available for say, a two hour window where they might answer questions from forum members.

8) Encourage the sharing of music and sounds created with Fender gear.

9) Encourage the open exchange of ideas.

hey Suhr, alot of great ideas- you need an agent? :D
I'm a nut about photos, I love seeing pics of folks guitars modded or not. I also like the poster of the month idea - although ya gotta be careful- people can post alot of "dead air" just to get their post count up.
This is definately one of my favorites forums, and I'd love to see more "stuff" to talk about here.

Suhr Thing: great ideas except for the ones regarding modded and/or custom guitars ... We love cool modified, custom gear as much as the next guy but the problem there is that folks frequently end up sharing instruments that are clearly intended to be knockoffs of other brands. As a general rule, any post content that's going to risk our Legal team receiving an angry phone call from a competitor is not something we can (or even want) to let fly here -- I think the vast majority here would agree that it's simply not worth putting the welfare of the entire forum at risk in exchange for one thread that might receive a few views.

The other suggestions, though, are great and we're definitely planning on introducing more and more stuff like that as the Community grows larger and larger!

Yeh, I was shocked when I saw that, too... but I quite like the idea now I've got used to it - there's something kinda retro about 'opening hours'. (I'm old enough to remember when Wednesdays were early closing and banks didn't open 'till 10).
On a serious note, well done Fender for taking forum moderation seriously and being responsible to your younger fabs!

i just wanted to add that even though i do not own any fender guitars (unfortunately i don't have enough $$$ to get the ones i want) i love their products and this website. It is so wonderful, people who are not fender players will still enjoy the site (even though i am one).

as soon as i think of other comments etc. i will tell you!
