Well, I just found my new GAS. Marshall just launched their new 5 watt combo amp to compete with the Vox AC4 and Fender Champ reissue. I've seen numerous Youtube demos on this amp and I'm very impressed. Made in UK for street price of $399! Not too shabby. I've called all over and looked online and no one seems to have them in stock yet. As soon as GC gets one of these, I'm heading over to check it out, mostly likely purchasing from the video demos I've seen so far.

Either in exchange for a amp I bought for £150 in march. :D

How can the world be so kind and so cruel at the same time.

nikininja,

Since you are in the UK, are these class 5 amps already available there? I just called Sam Ash and GC. They said they will not have them in stock until the second week of December. They are not available yet here in the states until then. I can't wait to play one of these babies.

Truth be told mate its a marshall amp. A great amp, my personal amp of choice. Theres little in the way of difference between them though. Ok you'll never get a 59plexi to sound like a JVM on full grind. But that plexi esque acdc type grit is in pretty much all of the ranges sound within reason. All they seem to do these days is keep adding gain or channels. This class5 looks to be a bit of a return to form. I hoped that the DSL (in my opinion is a greatly underrated amp) was a sign of the way marshall were going to go. That brilliant driven to crunch clean channel. Thats where they excell and thats what the marshall tone will always be for me. Not dissmilar from the classics of the 60s and 70s, that same mid range grunt. Listening to the Bonemassa demo of the class5 its gonna be a winner, that sound is certainly there. If they dont follow it up with a class15 and a class50 their a bit mad. Where i suspect it will be let down is the speaker configuration. 2x10 or 2x12 would be great, not practical in a 5watt amp though.

Ok, that sounds great!! My wife bought me a little Marshall MG15CDR practice amp back in Jul...and man I will be honest...after I did an upgrade on the speaker to a Celestion G8 Vintage 8 speaker...this little amp really rocks out. I know some of you are laughing about a SS amp like this but it really really sounds great! So I can only imagine what the tube class 5 will sound like..:)

Does anyone know if these are out in Canada, or when they will be out?
Nevin last i checked no one was sure when. Not sure how the price stacks up in the rest of the world but they are going to be substantially more expensive than any of the other 5 watters here.

Well, since these amps will not be available here in the states until December, I'm contemplating placing a pre order at Samash. No California 9.75% sales tax if I order from them is very tempting.

Okay, now I have to buy yet another amp. Its the bloating feeling of GAS.

Check out this youtube comparing the tone of the new Marshall Class 5 with the popular Vox AC4TV. I find the Marshall has that nice round beefy, smooth tone, like a mini bluesbreaker Marshall tone. I can't wait to get my hands on one of these.

Forum user Ed Mardell ("Echo Delta") works in a guitar shop in Southampton and was saying a couple of weeks ago that they already had them. A quick Google is finding me some shops listing them as in stock, others offering pre-order.

So they're being rolled out. Might be the same in other countries?

Cheers - C
