Maryland 's web site says that over 400 confirmed H1N1 cases have been hospitalize and 12 deaths and that it is currently in every region of the state.

Again I say it just shows how bad and slow the Government would be able to act on something even worst. They have known this was coming. Of course we can't blame Bush for the slow response so theres a lack of any blame  just silence!

Hi people: pardon me for going off topic for a second.

Away from the Forum concern has been expressed to me that I might have been offended to be asked to remove a cartoon I posted on the first page of this thread.

So to avoid all possible doubt: I am in no conceivable way offended.

I was in a flippant mood and posted a silly picture - not appallingly tasteless (I hope), but I immediately realised it might not be in keeping with the tone of the thread, as my next post showed.

So when later asked to take it down I did so without a moment's hesitation or bad feeling. I never post here with the intention of upsetting anyone and am only too ready to hear about it if I have unintentionally done so.

No hurt feelings whatsoever! :D

Nuff said: back to business.

Cheers - C

I just saw a news report of the same thing happening to a mid 20's woman, only she had this happen with a regular seasonal flu shot. Its extremely rare, but unfortunately it happens.

In our province of 500,000 there have been 6 deaths already and there dozens in hospitals suffering from H1N1 there are quite a few that had to be put on ventilators.

My 12 year old son tested positive for it a few weeks ago. Not really worse than the regular flu for him. Some of his friends were really sick with it though. It seems to affect everyone a little differently, so be careful.

Very widespread here in Kentucky, but seems to be lessening now.

Hey Mike at least Bush is not President or we would be hearing all the news media coming down on the administration for not reacting enough since this was found last year in Mexico and he did not stem the spread!!!! Another walk for Obamaaaa Lord and Master Orator to the World. Even if either where in office and did all they could which may have happen the media would have still went after the one and not the other. That said I don't think enough was done in my opinion to prepare.

Yeah, I agree, I think the FDA maybe dragged their feet on this one?

...............on the other hand, when the NYS Dept of Health ordered the mandatory vaccination for seasonal flu of all health care workers employed in facilities under DOH oversight, the state nurse's association was successful in obtaining an injunction staying the order. Here, in a situation where, IMHO, government acted swiftly and responsibly, those most likely to be in harms way, and potential vectors of the disease, acted in their own best interests, and not of society's. What good would adequate supplies of anything have done in the face of this kind of response? Only a declared state of emergency could have overturned that injunction. This may yet come to pass.

I am due to be vaccinated for H1N1 on Tuesday and will due so for several reasons: personal past medical history; exposure risk; responsibility to spouse, family, friends, patients, professional colleagues, and the rest of society.

Honestly, I didn't notice any sense of urgency manifested in the public sector as we moved from the the first pass, earlier in the year, into the summer. There apparently were more important issues for the press to cover, and one certaintly wasn't going to find this a subject of interest covered by the likes of Entertainment Tonight, The Food Channel, Housewives of........, The View, and not even Oprah.

Perhaps more video of the bedridden and moribund, with lines and equipment emerging from every potential and created orifice imaginable, will be more persuasive than the common sense and ethic expected and demanded of the so-called professionally educated and trained.

At your earliest possibly opportunity, have yourselves vaccinated. Such measures never have been without some risk, we are just more informed. However, with 1918 as a backdrop, the alternative can be potentially lethal.

Doc

I wonder if the pharma companies had anything to do with the hype that was associated with this?

I heard something about the CDC and WHO blowing this out of proportion in the news the other day. As close as these groups and the pharmaceutical companies work together I'm sure there is bound to be an ethical lapse here and there. This could well be one.
