In NYS the Department of Health mandated vaccination of health care workers which caused a hue and a cry, and a subsequent injunction. I remarked that the hour will come when it is finally realized that the Titanic is definitely going to founder and there is one life boat remaining.

That hour is here.

I know, for a fact, that the College of Dentistry has H1N1 vaccine ordered for the staff but the delivery date has yet to be made known. My wife is on the list at her physician's office and I hope that she will have the vaccine on board by the time she leaves for Florida. She plans to visit Disneyworld with the grandkids and their folks and I have grave concerns about that environment as this flu season matures.

It has been recognized that the immune response to the H1N1 virus in young people is furious and overwhelming, simply because these individuals are highly immune competent. As with severe allergy, our protective mechanisms get out of hand and kill us. Seasonal flu has the opposite response. It overwhelms those whose immune competency is impaired.

I will try to make available any information I obtain which may be of help.
Meanwhile, try to stay out of crowds, and keep your hands washed.

Doc.

Thanks Doc! Always good to hear advice from someone who is a medical professional.

Have a look at www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/recommendations via Google Advanced Search. This link isn't opening via this posting.

Just like the the Spanish Flu of 1918 the better you immune system the worst it is. A few years ago they dug victims up that were buried in permafrost and found preserved germs from 1918 could it have gotten out? Back then it lasted almost two years going around!

my wife and i had the swine flu here in kansas about a month ago. i had body aches and had bad chest congestion. my wife had actual flu symptoms like fever and nausea. tamiflu was prescribed from the KU campus health center. shes a student there so health care on campus is free for her, i had to tough it out since i dont have health insurance.

That's because it was the same virus. H1N1. Search for a recent non-fiction entitled The Great Influenza. It will tell you all you need to know.

I heard a report the other day that 17 people from In. have died from H1N1 since June. Not nearly enough vaccine to go around. Hard for me to understand why we are so unprepared.

The H1N1 virus doesn't grow as fast as the regular flu virus. They need to find a better medium than chicken eggs to produce it with.

According to a piece on '60 Minutes' recently, the identity and location of the sole supplier of those eggs is top secret. I hope better than that of the atomic bomb project and some other fiascos we've come to learn about.

Hopefully, the recombinant DNA methodology used for vaccines such as Hepatitis B can be employed for H1N1.

there havent been many deaths, they affect the old and young b/c the immune systems are weak, those were the only 2 deaths. Overall, its actually quicker to get over than the flu. It only lasts for 3 days. Friends have told me. Down here in CT, schools have been closed for a week b/c the flu has been so bad (Not Swine) so overall just make sure you guys stay healthy. Flu season is really bad this year. We've had 98 kids absent from school so far. The regular flu is worse than Swine.
