I got a call from a friend in Rhode Island last night saying that his three school age daughters all had regular flu shots a week ago, but they had just come from the local hospital's ER diagnosed with Swine Flu and was told that the vaccine wasn't available yet and to try tamiflu.

He went on to say that there have been a couple of deaths in their town and how he thought it was unfair that the these corporate CEO's and even inmates have already got their shots, but it was being held up for the children who really needed it more.

So, with that said, what is the current situation in your area? Have there been many deaths and if so, mostly children? Elderly? Underlying causes?

Discuss...

I just read that two pregnant women died recently in North Carolina. It didn't say exactly where though.

We've had several cases here in Vegas already and the first child fatality so far a couple of days ago. For a destination city like ours I'm amazed at how few cases there have been though. I guess the slow economy keeping visitors away is good in that respect.

Lot of people have it here too but not more than last year or any year flu.
Don't worry about the vaccine if you don't have any secondary health concerns. It is just another flu.

P.S Keep your ph value above 6 (cut down on acid valued foods and eat more balanced alkaline foods). At ph 6.0 virus attacks above values virus is ineffective in your body.

Not advertizing just FYI...

There has been 1 death because of the swine flu here in Iceland, a multi-handicapped girl at age 18. And it seems that everyone knows someone who has gotten the flu.
The vaccine process has started and they say that there is 300.000 portions of vaccine avalable. They finished vaccinating people who work in health and safety jobs (doctors, nurses, Police, EMT's and firemen). And are currently vaccinating people with underlying health issues.

The CDC hasn't updated this in over a week, but seems to be pretty widespread in the US :

I don't think it's a joking matter at all.

Hi Mike: then I'll take down that cartoon. No offense intended.

Its been around and have heard of a few deaths. Baltimore County just gave out 20,000 more shots by appointment which took a few hours and they were all booked up. Howard County one of the riches counties in the US has been giving to all the school students I have read in the local Times Paper.
My Doctors office did not even get the regular flu shots there supplier ran out so I had to go get it at the local grocery store for 20.00 and got a 10.00 coupon on next grocery bill to boot. But it would have been free at the doctors office.
Just shows how good the government is at inoculating the population in a emergency as Obamama calls it.

In NYS the Department of Health mandated vaccination of health care workers which caused a hue and a cry, and a subsequent injunction. I remarked that the hour will come when it is finally realized that the Titanic is definitely going to founder and there is one life boat remaining.

That hour is here.

I know, for a fact, that the College of Dentistry has H1N1 vaccine ordered for the staff but the delivery date has yet to be made known. My wife is on the list at her physician's office and I hope that she will have the vaccine on board by the time she leaves for Florida. She plans to visit Disneyworld with the grandkids and their folks and I have grave concerns about that environment as this flu season matures.

It has been recognized that the immune response to the H1N1 virus in young people is furious and overwhelming, simply because these individuals are highly immune competent. As with severe allergy, our protective mechanisms get out of hand and kill us. Seasonal flu has the opposite response. It overwhelms those whose immune competency is impaired.

I will try to make available any information I obtain which may be of help.
Meanwhile, try to stay out of crowds, and keep your hands washed.

Doc.
