So all these idyllic conditions in Bourneville,(was it?), came about by subtracting liquor?
I love my wine, been drinking it since I was a child. But last night I was
wondering if maybe it was enough, already. Because of the wine, I always
make a labor-intensive dinner to match, and it uses up most of the evening. I could be doing other things, I guess. I dunno. I'd miss it, I guess.

Sorry for your grief Niki, but I have a book recommendation for you.
"The Freedom Manifesto", by Tom Hodgkinson, a Brit. You'll find you're
not alone in your views.

Me, I've stopped contracting and I'm preparing my home for sale. Selling
everything, and, I hope, will never own this much stuff ever again.

Hodgkinson says multi-tasking means smoking and drinking at the same time.

Sorry Niki, that was 160 years ago, Kraft is not going to destroy anything you talked about.

Taurus.

I dont believe that lack of alcohol is at all responsible now for the peacefull air of Bournville. I believe it was a contributing well thought out factor when the place was first built. Just one of many good socialy aware foundations on which the business was built. Alcohol problems were far more tolerated during those times.
The equall rights for women workers was well ahead of its time, as was the stance encouraging the fairer sex into a carreer. The pension and now I've had time to re-read its history the opportunity for common employees to buy into the company were firsts. Nothing like that had been available to the common working class in England before then. George Cadbury also funded the build of what was later to become the queen elizabeth II hospital including its medicinal university and was a active financial contributer to selly oak hospital. Both sited in easy reach of his factory. The housing he provided was quite refreshing too. Good well constructed warm houses with fair rental costs. Also he made housing available to extended family. Believing family oriented life to be key to happiness, something that is sadly forgotten in England today. The Bournville housing association still operate and is owned by the cadbury company today still based on very similar principals to those George built the place with.

Voodooblues.

Please tell me how the place wont be affected? I cant see how it would not be affected.

I didn't say it wouldn't be affected, I said it wouldn't be "destroyed" as you put it.

Well....what's the definition of "hostile" in cases like these?

Agreed, Kraft produces lots of horribly generic and boring, in fact tasteless, stuff that some people eat. Of course, their prices are quite a bit lower than higher grade alternatives and nobody forces anybody to buy Kraft products instead of higher quality and alternatively good tasting stuff. Kraft serves a market very well...people who cant afford Cadburry, perhaps.

But is Cadburry's rebutal a reflection of some moral adversity to Krafts plasticism? Or is it a suggestion that even Cadburry's high-brow fare is for sale, but only at a higher price?

So who is the bigger harlotte? The cheap one or the expensive one?

What are you talking aboout? Cadbury manufactures among other products a wide variety of chocolate bars. This isn't a company that imports lobster tails, or caviar.

It seems the offer was rejected anyway:

Im referencing Niki's juxtaposition of Krafts "plasticized" products and Cadburry's yummy chocolates. Cadburry chocolates are widely considered the very best, especially in the UK. My comment suggests that Cadburry can deflect Kraft for now, but Cadburry will ultimately find a price at which its "comfortable" selling at. Everything is for sale, just at different prices.

Hey BigJay! Searching the old Belfast Tele!

I sympathise with Niki, it's just another case of money first, people's lives second. Thats 'today' unfortunately. Horrible.

Oh course not. Everyone may lose their jobs, the economy may crash, real estate values may fall, peoples lives may be ruined... but destroy the area? I guess if people stopped mowing their lawns it'll look a little unkept, but destroyed? Actually if Kraft moves production to Poland and people leave the area will be free of human interference and be able to thrive again... Kraft buying Cadbury is the best thing that could happen to the area!!!!

Have you ever been there? The place is inner city (as near middle of the city as chance would allow) and run to a fairly strict set of guidelines set up by Cadbury. Not just a few houses, the whole area. No body will leave the area through Cadbury's leaving the country but without their direct control of the housing it will quickly degenerate to the standards of the surrounding suburbs.
