Does anyone here subscribe to Total Guitar Magazine? What do you think of it? Is it worth the price you pay?

Im interested in the backing tracks that they provide in some of there issues.

Guitarist is the by far superior magazine.

Why is that? I have found Guitarist to be an expensive novelty, costing $16 per copy here in the US. In terms of content, Premier Guitar and Guitar World both seem better.

Depends what your focus is on, as well as your own level of playing.
Anyway, I think the trio - Guitarist, Total Guitar, Guitar Techniques - is absolutely brilliant.
About the price, it also depends where you're located, EU vs US does make a difference; but I do think there was an offer for US in last issue of TG (something like 30% off, I think).
Viceversa, Guitar World was expensive to get in Europe.
Premier Guitar, in its digital free edition, has the best value for money since it's free. :D
Thumbs up for they do make such a quality mag!
The only annoying part for all of them are the contests - GW and PG only have 'em for US residents; TG, GT & Guitarist only for UK residents...

And the backing tracks in TG are cool (I think they only give them to subscribers); I do use them too, a lot of fun.

5.95 here in the U.K. and its content just seems a lot more helpful, in depth and intuitive.

Total Guitar is just not my thing at all.

For backing tracks your better off looking around the web.

http://www.guitarbackingtrack.com/

Total guitar seems to be a kids mag to me. If your after some new kiddy band info then yeah its ok. Theres rarely very little of any worth in it to anyone above the age of twenty, though it is far better than guitarplayer or guitar world. Its instruction is certainly more encompassing, and your getting instruction from good hardworking graduates of music who will happily tell you their credentials. Not some idiot guitarist from slayer, or paul gilbert saying play this nonsense riff at 3987bpm. Guitarist seems to be the elite mag of choice at the moment. Guitar techniques is quite jaw dropping when it comes to instruction and seems to have less adverts than anything else. Thats the way I'd go, if I was to go buying guitar mags again.

Non of em are worth the cover value. Your paying to see adverts that companies pay to put in. For reward you get innaccurate slanted reviews on gear and a near subliminal message to buy buy buy.

guitarbackingtrack.com is ok, they do offer backing tracks by a variety of artists but i am looking for generic tracks that are well recorded. i like the series of backing tracks that total guitar put out a while back. those were well done backing tracks.

With the current exchange rate 6 pounds UK translates to just over 10$cdn, and the magazine stores are asking 20$cdn for the magazines..
Something not right there since they are all probably printed in Asia somewhere.

so I dont buy them much anymore..and if the powers that be(Guitar World)
are listening...there is more to music than how fast you can play, and how many notes you can cram into a sheet of "music"

I know, Rant rant rant, lol sorry.

Thats one of the reasons I prefer Guitarist, it isn't full of kids or shredding bands with stupid pointy guitars.

Guitarist also does backing tracks for their learning features towards the back. Also, they give audio demos of a lot o the gear reviewed. And occasionally there is a dvd issue. Don't really like other mags! Only ever buy them if no guitarist left :)
