This movie is coming out in about a week. I don't really appreciate the viral website that they have that scare people into actualy believing this. This movie is based on a Mayan calendar that never actually stated that the world would end on winter solstice- it just said it was the beginning of a new cycle.

And besides, everyone knows that the world will end on 2060.

I kinda like the viral scare, reminds me of H.G. Welles' 'War of the Worlds' when Orson Welles did the radio performance and scared everyone.

Yeah, I kinda thought of that too. When I was watching the Discovery channel or whatever I realized that the Mayan calendar was at its end... which doesn't mean the end of anything else. But it's nice entertainment.

It's the beginning and the end every 26,000 years the earth completes an orbit. Basic science, nothing mysterious.

Relax :)

That was Y2K. The day the computers couldn't calculate the date. Nothing else was going to happen except a bunch or programmers made a lot of money.

I don't buy into it only because I have friends whose ancestors past and present are actual Mayans or descendants of Mayan Indians and in discussing it with them they made it clear this was all an elaborate spin on what was actually predicted.

I am writing a song about it. Kind of a talking blues thing where a guy saves up to buy his dream guitar finally gets it and the world falls into the center of the universe or whatever before he even gets it home to play it. It was raining the day I started on it so I call it The Apocalyptic Rainy Day Blues

I read in an interview with a guy from a Mayan ancestory that the world is going to end in 2012. The mayan artist who did that particular calander probably didn't have time to make more calander.

Plus if you are christian and accept the fact that big portion of the Bible is based on Astrology, you should know that the world is going to end (which I doubt) in 2147 when the age of the Fishes ends and the age of the ... waterbearer, -carer -bringer?? starts. (Reminder: English is my third language).

There are also some sicentist that say that there will be a metieor (???) about the size of Texas that will hit earth in 2052. And ofcourse there is a sect of Jeohvas witnesses that say that the end of the world is happening every thirty years or so, men how disappointed can you get before you start to think about where you stand religous wise.

But me personally. I am waiting for Naglfari to be ready and the thunder of Heimdallurs horn signifying the beginning of Ragnarök. Then I'll pick up my battleaxe and fight aside the Æsir against the Jötnar until that fireball burns everthing on earth. Ceri you know what I am talking about right? :D

But searusly I'm looking forward to seeing that movie. Hopefully in a movie theater for all the effects :D

"Watch therefore, for ye know not the day nor the hour." Matthew 25:13

It seems like every few years, folks get worked up over some date that is suppsed to mark the end of the world or some other terrible catastrophe. I remember being a little kid and worrying about the so-called Jupiter Effect, a particular allignment of the planets which was going to cause planetwide chaos back in 1982. The date came and went, and of course none of the catastophes ever occurred. Then there was Y2K. Then there were the groups that were predicting the Rapture on October 28th, 1992 (there is still a copy of this flyer plastered to a utility pole in my home town...)

Anyway, the practice of predicting the end of the world is something people have been doing since the dawn of time. I fully expect that 2012 will come and go and we'll all still be here, discussing the merits of USA vs. Mexican Strats. :)
