look for a standard Squier telecaster

or if you dont want a Squier and can't afford a Fender check:

My 1st Tele was a Squier Affinity and it was a great guitar. Sounded good, looks like a 52 VR, and the price is right. The necks are a little thinner, but some people like thin necks. I sold it when I bought my American Series Tele. For some reason I'd still like to get another one of those Affinity's.

You might want to check out craigslist. If there were a way you could save up another $100, there are a lot of Made in Mexico Teles in the $300 range in my area. Just a thought, and happy hunting. :)

Squiers are great instruments, I would def. say go with the Affnity Tele. If you keep a keen eye though I have seen mid-90s MIMs go for under $200, strats and teles.
