Which side of stage facing crowd do you prefer to setup gutar vs bass rig and players and why?
Is there a science of sort behind this or is it all the band as the whole sound thing depending on the venue?

I was just a guest on some small live gigs and just had to plug in where they told me the amp was.

I have traditionally liked to be on the drummer's right (by the floor toms) when playing bass.

Many people want the bass to be on the other side, near the high hat.

If I'm using keyboards and guitar, the side with the most space is my preference.

For just guitar/vocals I prefer to hear the kick so I try to get close to that side. (left usually).

Usually I'm in the middle with one guitar, my other guitarist is usually on my right, she runs back and forth a lot though. And my bassist s a pretty stoic dude tho o_O

I prefered the left front side of the stage because it's easier to turn and have the band see the fretboard if I need to give the dreaded "you should be on the IV" cues.

Also, I don't need to worry about smacking the drums or the bass player with my guitar if I pivot while attempting to fake showmanship.

It's purely a matter of personal preference.

Drummers right is my preference. I've had the 'go where the amp is' a few times. You get used to it very quickly.

Stand up with your guitar strapped on and imagine you are on stage...

Most players are right handed, so, look over to your right and imagine you are lost in a song and the other guitarist or bass player is on your right...what do you see? The back of their hand and the back of the neck of their instrument. No much help, huh?

Now imagine that you are lost and look over to the guitarist or bassist to your left...Hey! You can see the chords or root note.

So: If you are the leader, you need to be on the left so the guys can follow you. If you are new in the band or follow another player's cues, take the right of the stage. (Right side looking out at the crowd)

Your welcome. :)

Personal preference for me. If I get lost, I can improvise and hear the changes better than looking at someone else's neck and trying to figure it out anyway.

I used to prefer being on the right side (from your perspective, facing the audience). Now, I don't mind either side.
