In an ideal world, I'd want to spend more of my time on personal woodshedding (practicing guitar techniques, memorizing scales and theory, ear-training/transcription, improvisation and composition). But unfortunately, much of my discretionary musical time gets chewed up with the people, gear and marketing activities associated with music.

Band "problems" involve recruiting, auditioning and (too often) discarding other potential band members. Gear research, maintenance and shopping activities all take time.. not to mention late night rehearsal or gig load-ins and load outs. Finally, the daily business and marketing of music involves time-consuming updates to websites, myspace sites and reachouts to venues and clients.

Sometimes I go a week without picking up my Strat... What's wrong with this picture? Do you also find that your progress as an artist or musician is hampered by the (necessary?) distractions of chasing down gigs, gear, & girls? Is it worth the chase?

Sounds to me that your past the point of self-management. You might want to consider representation. That'll free up your time.

CryingStrat is right. It sounds like you have a little too much on your plate. It might be time to find someone to handle all those chores for you so you can concentrate on other things. Like the actual music.
