I have a large coffee table book called The Album Cover Album that was published years ago,I don't know if it is still in print but it contains the most interesting and striking album covers printed up to that time. The book is edited by Hpgnosis-who did most of Pink Floyd's covers and Roger Dean who has done many milestone covers for such famous groups as Yes. The book is published by Dragon's World A&W Visual library. The 1977 address of the company was Dragon's World Ltd.,Limpsfield,Surrey, RH8 ODY,United Kingdom. The Library of Congress No. is 77-71713. the
ISBN Hardback is 0 89104 085 4
ISBN Limpback(soft cover) is 0 89104 074 9
If this book is still in print it's just a great catalogue of how album art has evolved over time and a great addition to any audiophile's library.

Sorry for the hijack, but there might be some who haven't seen this very creative site that uses album covers to make a new picture (hard to describe, but you'll get the idea when you get there):

Wow I forgot how great album covers used to be. These little CD inserts just don't convey the same impact. I still have a few picture discs. Some Ventures from the 60's. Probably the only one I have that is worth anything is the Lynryd Skynrd album with the band standing if front of a wall of flames. The blacked out the flames on the cover after the plane crash.

I hear albums are starting to make a comeback with some of the puritsts. I'm hanging onto my turntable just in case.

The Iron Maiden ones are works of art.

Molly Hatchett , Flirting with disaster album another classic.

I like the phase when el pee covers resembled fantasy works a la destroyer.
