(Seriously... This isn't a joke. I didn't even think they were real musicians until I saw them live. They were great players, and a whole lot funnier live)

I didn't know they did live shows...i would dig that.

Little Feat. Their records don't really capture the energy and spontaneity of a Good Little Feat Show. That's why Waiting for Columbus is their best Album.

Lowell George was amazing, but I still enjoyed seeing them without him.

The Grateful Dead were not always great live. But when they were great, they were truly inspired.

Either way, their live performances were so different from their studio recordings, its like night and day.

Live was the ONLY way to experience the Grateful Dead.

Even if you dont like their music, a live Dead show would routinely change peoples minds.

A big +1 here! I saw several Dead shows and it was NEVER the same experience twice! When they were having an "on" night there was nothing better!

Agree with BigJay -- it's very difficult to capture what the Dead did when they were at their best live. The same applies to other so-called jam bands like Phish. What's inspiring live doesn't translate well on disk.

Jeff Beck -- terrific live and his albums don't always capture that.

Lowell was one of a kind, the kind that doesn't come along very often.

Still, I love Shawn Murphy and Freddy Tacket is one of my favorite players. They keep it interesting live, taht's for sure :) .

Though he's famously known for not being good live, I was fortunate enough to see Chuck Berry on an occasion when he was. Not a fan of arena/stadium concerts, this was a small outdoor event where I was close enough to see him sweat. The local band that supported him were one I had seen on many nights at a local club and knew a few of the members, making it all the more special.

I was able to see the original members of the Ramones live once, as well. That was a great show. Also on the bill was The Tom Tom Club and Blondie, who were just as good.

In the category of “hate to admit I enjoyed” would be David Lee Roth. I went as a chaperone for my little sister. My mom wouldn’t let her go on her own. Opening for “Diamond Dave” was Poison (not my cup of tea, thank you). This was his first outing, fresh from his infamous break-up with the Van Halen brothers. Everything about this event told me I was not going to like any of it: big arena concert, Poison, some numb nuts next to me telling me how he likes AC/DC but had no idea who I was talking about when I said I preferred Bon Scott as their vocalist over the new guy…but, as I stated earlier, I hate to admit I enjoyed David Lee Roth’s set. Steve Vai was his guitarist at the time and it was a enjoyable show.

I caught Motorhead once and they sounded wayt better then the albums. Just a 3 piece band too but everybody was spot on. The drummer was throwing in all kinds of free style fills and the guitar sound was great. I always liked them but that show made me see them in a totally different light.

I saw David Lee Roth many years ago when he came to Australia with Steve Vai. I enjoyed it, they're both huge show-offs and I mean that in a good way. I'd wanted to see Steve Vai play since I saw Crossroads with Ralph Macchio (even more years ago).
