Back in '69 Jimmy Page was in his home looking at the busted Fender amps and the Rickenbecker amps he had. Jimmy being a perfecionist knew that these were not good enough for the second American tour already schedueld. So he called the Led Zeppelin tour manager Richard Cole and one of the roadies, Clive, up and told them to meet him at his home. Jimmy told Clive that he needed/wanted some new Marshall amps, Clive responded by saying: Those are really expencive, How much are you willing to spend? This was in the days before Zeppelin was making any money.
Jimmy said that he wasn't going to spend a penny on the new amps. He then told Clive and Richard to take the speakers out of the Rickenbeckers and put the into the Fender amp boxes and take it to Sound City near Piccadilly Circus to trade them for Marshall amps (Fender where most expencive amps at the time), they wouldn't know the diffrence. And what do know, it worked, and Jimmy had some brand new Marshall amps for the second American tour.

So if you bought used Fender amp in Sound City near Piccadilly circus, there is a good change you got cheated at the time, but that Fender/Rickenbecker Frankenstein is probably worth some $$$ today :D

I read this story in Richards Cole book "Stairway to heaven: Led Zeppelin uncensored" (it is not copy/paste though).

Ditto......and, assuming these are truly the facts, for an inside look at the integrity of the celebrated Jimmy Page.

Cool bit of history to know...bad part..I never got into Zepplin and I always felt Page was well...over rated...JMO...I thought he could write incredible music but his execution was sloppy...that is my reasoning. I have heard that he is a really nice guy so I guess that makes up some :D

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
