The company Lyst, that had the McDonalds franchise license in Iceland, decided to close down all three of the Mickey D restaurants in Iceland. The reasons are that the Icelandic currency is bad and going worse and they had to buy all of the materials from a Mickey D factory in Germany. It just wasn't worth it anymore, and Lyst decided that they were going to do the same thing as the Burger King franchise holders did last year. They didn't renew the Franchise contract and started a new chain under a new name and make burgers made from Icelandic materials. The new restaurants name is Metro.

Now I haven't tried Metro burgers yet, but who knows what will happen in next weekends hangover :D .

Iceburgers.

I'd be quite happy if the uk ditched mcdonalds. Did you ever see the documentary "supersize me". This guy questions the mcdonalds nutritional values and tried to eat a balanced diet from mcdonalds, for a month. When the server asked him if he wanted to supersize it he had to answer yes. By three weeks in his doctor was begging him to go back to his usuall diet (vegetarian or vegan, cant remember). The doc told him his liver was turning to mush and about to pack up.

The only change I noticed after it was aired is that all the servers repeatedly ask if you want to supersize. They dont miss it anymore.

Did you really buy what they said in that movie? The same thing happens to people who go from eating junk food to only eating vegetables. It takes your body a while to adjust.

Anyways, back to the original post... you only have 3 McDonalds in Iceland? Geez, there are 3 McDonalds on my street!

Yea I saw that movie.

I also read his book, can't remember what the name of is right now, I may post the name when I get home from work.

In the book there is a interesting story:

When Malcom Spurlock was working for MTV he and the guy in the office next to his where pranking each other by hiding something in each others offices that would with time start to stink up the office. One day Morgan decided to hide McChicken sandwich in the other guys office and hid good. The time past and he didn't hear from the other guy about the sandwich, and Morgan started to think that he had a bad prank coming to him. Later Morgan got fired from MTV and for years he didn't hear from the other guy.
AND THEN good 7 or 9 years after Morgan got fired he got a phone call from the other guy asking when Morgan was in the office. He had just found that sandwich and it looked and smelled like it had just been bought that day.

Makes you think about all the chemicals in those burgers

Interesting. I was just reading a new book by Charles Goyette, a Scottsdale, AZ resident like me: "The Dollar Meltdown".

It may get ugly here as well.

NonniG, does Iceland produce it's own beef, buns, potatos, etc?
Is it possible to supply a fast food joint with mostly Icelandic products?

I'm guessing the mexican food is not world class in Iceland.

Also, the women of Iceland: do they look like the girl John Milner was
after in "American Grafitti 2"?
If so, I'm there.

Guy's I live in one of the fattest nations on earth. The USA. Iceland will be better off without Mickey D's. The sludge they crank out is garbage pure and simple. People in the US are killing themselves. The health industry thinks this may be the first time in modern history that the children may die long before their parents. When I was a kid, overweight kids were few and far between. Now it's the norm. Diabetes and obesity are out of control.

When I gave up all the fast food crap, I lost 30 lbs, my blood pressure returned to normal as well as my blood sugar. I feel better, look younger than most of the guy's my age that I know, I'm 54 and can ride a bicycle 80 miles no problem where I couldn't walk a half mile without needing a rest. Do I buy into that crap. You bet!
Mickey D's can't even make a healthy salad. It's starts out healthy, but they offer salad dressings that will add 300-600 calories and tons of fat to the salad.

There is another movie called "Super High Me". It's about the effects of smoking weed on the human body. It's pretty funny and the results of the half arsed tests are surprising.

In 2003 I spent a month in Saint Petersburg, Russia. After about two and a half weeks of Russian food--which I love--I just had to eat a hamburger. So I went into McDonald's for my gluttonous fill. I have to admit that it tasted wonderful. But that's about the only time I could say that. 8)

BTW, my pictures of Saint Petersburg are HERE in case anyone's interested.

Yeah, 63, weed is the biggest de-motivator out there. Bad for testosterone levels, too. Some people love the stuff. I get distracted enough on my own.

Oh well, more for the rest of you.....

Funny thing is, this guy's sperm count was normal. I do agree it does de-motivate a lot of people.

Yes we do make our own beef, buns and potatos and even vegtebles and fruits.

About mexican food. We have Serranos and taco bell here. I prefer Serranos because it is healthier and tastes better than TB, and it looks better to.

Icelandic women = Beautiful but dangerous
