I remember I spent a whole summer to try and get the F barre chord right!

So, it takes a while to develop calluses? Okay, because it sounded like from the video that it was pretty quick so I don't feel so bad now. I get deep string marks but I think I'm pressing waaaay too hard.

Btw, what do 'sliders' do? I was thinking of just picking one up for cheap just in case I wanted to use one.

LVA,

Congrats on the F chord. It was a difficult chord for me to learn, but now I play it with out even thinking about it. Practice makes perfect. You may be pressing too hard on the strings if you are getting indentations, but the calluses will develop quicker. Keep on doing what you are doing.

It seems like I just hit the F chord once and I really have to position my fingers. I'm trying to get my fingers to remember the positioning.

BTW. I went to my local music store to ask about a setup for my guitar. He said it was $40 with changing strings and $30 without changing strings? Does that sound right? Too expensive? Please let me know. I don't have much to go on here.

I just payed $40 for a string change and a professional set-up. IMO money well spent. I increased my string guage from 9's to 10's. I once messed up a neck adjusting it myself and still have bad dreams about it. I have said it before and I'll say it again, I will do anything to a guitar but mess with the truss rod.

Okay, thanks. I don't want to mess with my truss rod. If I knew better, maybe I shouldn't have gotten one with the truss rod adjustment (it seems like there's guitars without them) Well, it was a cheap set so best to learn on what I've got, and I do love what I have.

LVA,

Honestly you want a guitar with a truss rod so you can adjust the relief of the neck to get rid of unwanted buzzes. They are a great invention, I just had a very bad experience with one a long time ago.

F and Barre chords in general still give me serious problems after 9 months of playing! I have been using the cheat way or what my friends tell me is the cheat way...this one above. I made a video that turned out pretty good for me the other day, but i missed a few chords and was singing in Spanish so that can be problematic too! Keep up the good work though I feel your beginner growing pains!
