I think the overall sound is more Joe Perry, than if he's using a Les Paul or a Strat. I've once heard of Brian Setzer (Gretsch hollow body player) getting a chance to play Stevie Ray Vaughn's #1 Strat, and when asked about that experience, Setzer replied along the lines of "I sounded like Brian Setzer playing SRV's Strat."

In an article in GP Joe Perry says he owns hundreds of guitars. He has Tele's too as well as Jazz boxes. Thing is, he always sounds like Joe Perry no matter what he plays.

This is true. I met a guy who used to be his guitar tech until they became superstars and he talked of a location in Brighton/Allston (Massachusetts) where Joe used to have a place to store them all when not being used.

Jim Mouradian, a rather well know Boston tech, had previously done a lot of work on Joe's guitars.

That gold sparkle strat is a killer. I remember him playing that on stage and also a clear acrylic strat that he used for Draw the line which I believe he played in open A tuning as he was playing slide and the chord voicings were not for standard tuning.

Aerosmith have always been one of my favorite bands and I am a huge Joe Perry fan. Very weird lead player as he has written a million great riffs and always plays a ripping solo yet when you think about it he does not have any really famous stand out signature solos like he does riffs.

Yes Doc I know what you mean about Little Richard. I know he had a big impact on McCartney as you can hear in a lot of early Beatle songs, and Jeff Beck is a huge fan, as he has his famous Surf Green Strat that is signed by him that I read not to long ago he retired because he did not want the signature to fade. And what can I say about Setzer, the guy is just as good as one can be on the guitar. There is a good article on him in the holiday issue of Guitar Player that has KISS on the cover.
