Any Guild owners/p;ayers in here?

I have been looking at the DV-6 lately. I found a like brand new one from 2007 when they were still made in the USA and I have been really thinking about trading my Blueridge for it.

Any thoughts/ideas/feedback about Guild acoustics?

Believe it or not, since the 60s, I've always liked Guild acoustics the best. Yes, better than Martin and Taylor!

Well, I have never been a Martin guy, they are great but nothing special to me. If I am going to spend that much money on an acoustic, I'll go ahead and splurge and get a Collings. Taylors don't interest me either, I'd take a Guild or a Blueridge over a Taylor.

What model Guild(s) do you play? Have you played either the DV-6 or DV-4, or the GAD-50? I have narrowed it down to one of those 3 models based on my price range.

The U.S. made Guilds are nice guitars. I've never owned one, but I would like to get one. I know someone who has had one since the 70's and he's still playing it.

Currently, I own no acoustic guitars. However, in the past, I've owned several Guild acoustics, all new, all Hoboken, NJ made; I guess I'm showing my age now. Unfortunately, the models you name, I'm not familiar with.

The DV-4/6 is a newer model, they used to make it in the USA then moved it to Mexico. The GAD-50 is another newer one but it is made in China. I like the look of the GAD better but I really want to get a made in the USA guitar. And I got some real good feedback from Elderly about both the Mexico and USA made DV-6

The D-6 looks a bit like some of the D-35s I used to have. Man, I miss those guitars!

From what I hear, Elderly won't steer you wrong. Good luck with your new guitar as I'm sure you'll enjoy it for MANY years to come!

One of the guys in the meet up group I play with told me about them and said they are always very good to deal with, knowledgeable and ship well packaged and fast. So far anytime I have sent them an email they have replied fast with good information. They even offer layaway.

If you look in You Tube for Guild guitars you will come across a player named Frostymorn. The recording and his playing are very clean.

Hope this helps,
John.E

I had a US made Guild D-25 I got back in the early/mid 90's. I wanted a Martin at the time and couldn't afford one. I saw the Guild and picked it up played it for about 10 minutes and bought it. I thought it played nicer and sounded better than the $1000-$1500 Martins. I am not familiar with the newer models, but if they are anything like the older ones, you can't go wrong.

I too get hung up on the Made in the US label. I remember reading about an old blues guy who deliberated for hours between a Martin and Yamaha that he was going have bought for him. In the end he got the Martin but only after finding out that the Yamaha was made overseas and therefore probably would be more inconvenient to have repaired. The moral of the story is, who cares where its made if sounds good? Playability and sound should be the the ultimate choice, not name or price tag!

Utiimately I traded that Guild for a Martin D-16RGT which I love. I still really wish I had the Guild!

Acoustic guitars have just as much hype as electrics over what constitutes good tone. To my ear, every Guild I ever played (about 4 guitars in all if memory serves, all dreadnoughts) was dull, thudding and lifeless even with fresh strings but some people prefer that kind of sound. As a result I've never had much interest in trying any more Guilds and usually dismiss them out of hand. Since I own 2 Taylors and I am extremely happy with both of them you can prolly guess why I never liked the sound of a Guild. As with any guitar purchase it's always up to the buyer to determine what sounds best. You can get some idea of where a guitar fits in the overall spectrum by reading these threads but the real test is in the playing. Play them all until you find one you like and don't bother about what others think of your choice.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
