Wha? I hadn't had anything in my mind worth posting. No one was interested in home recording or songwriting, and I don't do political crap.

Tony - I'm always interested in anything you have to say, especially about home recording and song writing!

Those seem to be two topics that don't get covered much, and it's great when you share your wisdom and ideas with us.

I vote for more! Glad to see you're still around.

Just keep posting on recording Tony. You would be surprised at the number of people that read your post and never post themselves. Forget the politics. This is a music forum!

actually Tony I always want to hear what you have to say about home recording, but I don't feel i can really contribute to the conversation, but only soak up your info like a sponge.

I have never really gotten far beyond an old reel to reel at home, i feel somewhat neanderthal when people talk about their home rigs.

Some of us were worried some of the political stuff had scared you off, glad to see you still want to hang out here.

This January (I am too busy until after the Xmas season,) I want to put together some kind of home studio. This probably means a new com0puter and a DAW of some sort, so i am going to need some advice. PC or Mac, which progs people use. What programs have the most useful plug-ins loops tracks etc. so I'll be putting you to work. You are certainly one of the trusted voices on these topics!

Wow, if you can now, buy this mic Electro-Voice Blue Series Cardinal Cardioid Condenser Microphone, Sam Ash has them on closeout for $99.99 http://tinyurl.com/yd3vsvp. I brought one, have done a few test recording with it, it works for voice & mic'ing amps.

I also have been recording quite a lot with Reaper, and I must have over 200 VST, VSTi & DX plug-ins!

12B is light years ahead of me Tony. I'll just sit back and try to understand what you guys are talking about. I'm completely ignorant when it comes to using a computer to record. Looking forward to reading both of your post regarding the subject!
You have over 200 (what kind?) of plug-ins!! :?

You can think of plug-ins as being equipment/FX patches. VST or VSTi (Steinberg's Virtual Studio Technology) and Dx are used for PCs. I have Reaper and SONAR LE as DAW, with both when you insert a track for recording.

For example with guitar, you'll first need a virtual amp model plug-in, once inserted into track, it will look like this:

Than using your mouse, you tweak the volume, gain & tones knobs to your liking.

This site has hundreds of free plug-ins http://www.gersic.com/plugins/index.php?daCat=1. With Reaper, when I find a plug-in I like, I download and save to the hardvrive where I have Reaper installed. Unzip the plug-in, and copy the .dll to Reaper's 'Plug-in folder.

The next I want to record, Reaper will scan itself, find the new plug-in and add it to the plug-in list.
