I'd like Freddie Mercury at the front of my band. Please.

Amen to that, Ceri!!
I'm right there with you. 8)

I've been listening to the compilation album of his solo work for the past week or so ever since I got it as a gift for my birthday. I just can't get enough of his solo stuff!! :P
The album is called "The Very Best of Freddie Mercury Solo: Lover of Life, Singer of Songs".
AWESOME album.
It's two discs, as well, so it's TWICE as AWESOME.

SO.
Long story short.
Freddie Mercury is my pick. :D

Layne Staley

honest, emotional, heart felt and full of pain. And his first 2 full length cd's had such HUUUGE vocals you'd never think they were coming out of a little 90 pound guy.

I could list about 10 others, but the topic title asks for one so......

plus he lived his life playing music, then died. Doesn't get any more real then that.

In these threads, in the past i have always championed Burton Cummings, he has insane range and control, I'll put his work up against freddie any day.

But the most Rock & Roll voice of all time is John Fogerty. CCR dominated the rock world, ballsy straight from the gut. His raspy gin soaked vocals are what rock and roll is all about. The breadth of their work stands with anyone, from rock out with your c&*^ out stuff like Fortunate Son, to ballady stuff like Who'll Stop the Rain, to Motown covers, and R & B, and Country. he never gets his due.

Terry Kath- Chicago
Dusty Springfield

Mike , that list is great, there are others, this thread grew.

during early 1967, the Chicago Transit Authority was born. It was after an early CTA performance that Kath received perhaps the highest accolade any guitarist could obtain, when Jimi Hendrix told sax player Walter Parazaider, "Your guitar player is better than me.
