While I am quite a bit away from gigging, I might actually make this band I tried out for. I jammed with the drummer, and my vibro champ barely kept up. I'm looking for something relatively inexpensive, but powerful enough to keep up with a few other musicians (most likely loud musicians).

I was looking at the Bugera v22 and the Super Champ XD. (Pro junior, possibly?)

What do you guys think?

I know this is a Fender forum but my Strat sounds great through my Line 6 Spider 3, 75 watt.

I got a killer deal on it so didn't look into much else, great versatility and variety of sounds. Throw in a footpedal for changing sounds/banks and it's pretty cool.

If they use a PA, mic your current amp.

Or go to SS amps like a Frontman™ 212R or FM 212 DSP both deliver 100watts into 2 * 12 speakers and are relatively inexpensive, they list under 400$ Canadian.

I haven't heard the Bugera yet but I gig with a SCXD and I really like this amp. But we mic all the instruments and use electronic drums to keep stage volume down. You might want to check to see what the band does. If they mic everything you might not need another amp. If you do it does depend on the dynamics of the drummer. He pretty much dictates stage volume and how much volume you'll need to be heard. The Jr will probably be loud enough, I haven't had to turn my Super Champ up but it can pretty loud. It comes down to personal preference. Don't forget to look at used amps, I would consider Traynor amps as well as a cost effective alternative. Good luck making the band.

I've used my Pro Jr (un mic'd) for small clubs and never even had to dime it to the twelve (yep, it goes up that far!) and the tone with a Strat or Tele is terrific.

About twenty pounds of tone to the bone!

So Mike, you go one more than eleven?

Everyone else is maxing it out on 11, atleast those who didnt follow Nigel Tufnel's example and are still stuck on 10. They've nowhere to go. But you infact can go up to 12.

See all them old tricks are always the best.

Myself If I was planning on getting a save on. In your position and influences I'd look to a smaller sized marshall AVT50/100. Somewhere around that size mate.

A crate ss is a great choice too. You could line out the vibrochamp into it and pretty much keep all your vibrochamp sounds. You could do that with the marshall too, but the bipolar output stage will add marshall tight low end to the sounds.

I got SuperChamp XD as well and it it an awesome amp. Rattles little bit when cranked but that is fixable with the new tubes.

I took it to a few gigs last year and unmiked was barely making it. There was a guy with the Gibson SG and 40W tube Traynor that was destroying me. I had it on 8 with a lot of distortion. SuperChamp XD does not have a lot of clean headroom stock.

Miked it is ok on vol between 4 and 5 lot of clean and very decent tone for $300 amp.
