I have been playing for about a year and a half and things are going well. Now I am thinking that I should be playing with another musician. I don't know anybody who plays. How do you find people to play with?

Word of mouth....network with friends, school, music shops....online sites such as indicated above and craigslist...google for more...contact local guitar/drum teachers and explain what you're looking for.

It's all about communication....both...before and while in the band!

You might want to try an open mic night somewhere. Music stores are also good places to hook up with other musicians.

I find the best bands form organically, just start hanging out with musicians and find some people you hit it off with.

Post your name and interests on bulletin boards near the doorways of musical instrument shops.

Start hanging out at blues jams and at guitar shops. Ask around.

+1
Bandmix helped me find the last band I was in.

The bulletin board thing sometimes worked for me too years ago. Most times nothing really came of the bands or individuals I found from bulletin board ads, but it was at least a chance to jam with other people while learning new songs and musical genres. You can learn more in one day of playing with a band than you can in a whole month of playing at home all alone.

Good luck!

My opinion, the best way to find people you are compatible with is to find them through your friends via word of mouth. If the guy is a friend of your friend, the odds are maybe better that you'll get along with them.

I've found that if you can't be on a "friends" basis with the other members than spending the time with them necessary to get your band together will be pretty difficult.

I've been playing bass with the same drummer for 17 years in multiple different lineups, and our lead player has now been with us for 7. We can hang out and have alot of laughs besides band things. Makes the work and the constructive criticism and the disagreements all easier to handle because they're between friends.

I consider myself very lucky to have that situation.

Ask musicions in your area, Go where they play. They always know someone who is looking to jam with someone. Or maybe run an ad in your local news paper want ads. Good luck
