:D :D :D :D

Yeah, I gotta get some strings. I need to practice more, but my schedule stinks right now. I'm hoping to get better but it just seems I'm getting nowhere. I'm plugging along though. I'm trying to get through chords, but that F chord has always messed me up. dang.

Definitely getting a string cutter and a work bench. Also, I'm getting some packs of strings. Maybe I can ask my sis for those for the holidays.

What do you think about this amp? I know someone wrote about it, but I'm too lazy to page through the thread. LOL

LVA,

I do not care for this particular amp in the Fender amp line-up. It just does not sound that good to me when I played it. To be honest with you, you will get better sound from this:

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=487030

or this:

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=620208

or even this, the entry level for the tube amps:

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=485054

You can go to youtube and hear demos if you type in the amp model on your search.

I personally own a Roland Cube 30X and feel it is a great practice amp for me...but I have been looking at the Line 6 Spyder 4 75 watt to play bigger practice sessions with other musicians. I am trying to keep you in the $100 range, but if you want an authentic tube amp sound, the Fender Champion is your next cheapest solution as far as sound, and with any money constraints you may have just starting out in the guitar world.

Good luck on your endeavor for your amp.

RK

Thanks. I'll look into those. I'm not looking for big sound or playing in a band. I just wanna play for myself and maybe my dad. So cheaper sounds are fine for now.

Just went to GC (I know I have to pay sales tax, but you have to spend more at Musician's Friend so for the more expensive stuff I go there) and put my order through for that planet waves wirecutter/winder, a workbench, some extra strings, a guitar poster, and string cleaner. A lot of it is backordered so at least I can put the lion's share on my next credit card bill. Then, I'll have my sis put the stuff in a box ready to go.

Then again, that Fender sweatshirt looks pretty warm. ;)

I'm going to wait with the amp or a pedal board. I'll see what you guys suggest for that to see if there's some good Christmas deals. I'm not looking for huge sound, just for practice and stuff. Also, just to get to know an amp/pedal board so if I mess it up, it's no big deal.

Thanks a lot for all your suggestions.

Thanks. I hope I made some right choices in the selection of tools.

BTW, been looking for a cheap distortion pedal to play with. Any suggestions? I was looking at this only because it was on sale as a clearance item and it's free shipping and no sales tax.

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Coffin-Case-BDFX1-Blood-Drive-Distortion-Pedal-Regular?sku=150020

Or this
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Boss-DS1-Distortion-Pedal?sku=151258#used I'd get it new though, not used. Also, there's an adapter for a free gift.

How does one hook up a distortion pedal?[/url]

Danelectro's cool cats are good, cheap starter pedals. And you just run the line from the guitar to the pedal to the amp. It gets more complicated the more pedals you use but with just a dist pedal it's that simple.

1. Hooking one us is easy. You need one patch cord from the guitar to the pedal and one from the pedal to the amp.

2. I am not sure how the Blood Drive sounds, but the Boss DS1 to me sounds weak. It is not bad if you are into Blues or Country music. If you are into Metal and Rock you will like this one better.

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=151328

I get tones from Black Sabbath to Metallica out of mine.

Youtube the Blood Drive and see what you think of its tones. It may be a good pedal, I am just old school and never tried them...yet.

Thanks for the input. Youtube is good for this.

How does this sound to you? I'm not sure what sounds are good or not yet. It's for the Blood Drive. I'm just looking for cheap and easy to use. I can always get another one later down the line and hook up a better one. I like to fart around with stuff that I won't regret screwing up. LOL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQFYkUPdd34

PS--can you use these pedals by themselves or do you have to hook them up to other stuff? I've seen these cases that look like Frankenstein's lab with all these boxes hooked up together.

I saw the video just now. Not a bad sounding pedal. I kinda like it. Yes you can Daisy Chain any and all pedals together. Turn them off and on separately. My current pedal chain is this :

1. Amp (Roland 30X)
2. Chorus (Boss CE-3)
3. Delay (Boss DD-7)
4. Equalizer (Boss GE-7)
5. Distortion 1 (Boss MT-2)
6. Distortion 2 (Boss OD-2)
7. Wah (Dunlop Orginal Crybaby)
8. Guitar (Fender or Squier Stratocaster)

I have a couple more pedals, but never use them any more because I get whatever sound I want from my set-up now.

I do not use all the pedals at the same time, however I always have the EQ on, it cleans up the guitar and almost acts like a pre-amp for my amp. Then I just pick and choose between my pedals to get the sounds I want from them. Most of the time I play with my EQ, MT-2, amp, and guitar only.

I also have a Fender G-dec amp, and I do not use any pedals with that amp due to the on-board effects are enough.

Please keep in mind I have been playing for almost 20 years and most of these pedals I have collected over the years...here and there. Essential pedals are disortion and EQ.

I'm already getting a care items for the strings. I have just a regular polishing cloth for the body so I'll go to my local music store for polish. I also have tools that came with the guitar. Thanks for the advice though. I'll put it in my wish bag for birthdays.

I want to get that coffin case blood drive pedal, but that stupid musician's friend site won't let me use the free shipping coupon although it qualifies. eeeerrrrrggggggggg.
