Okay, I've been asked what I want for Christmas. I'd like to get something for my guitar that's not too expensive.

I have a hard case, strap, picks, cloth, strings, tuner, and my Squier 10 baby amp (and it is a baby amp). Any ideas on what I should get for a new guitarist that's not too expensive (after all, my sis wants to get something for me and since we're a bit strapped for cash, the lower end of the scale would be best).

I'm already looking to get stuff for my sis. She's not a guitarist or anything like that. So for me, she's hard to buy for. LOL I'll figure something out though.

Any ideas? Thanks a bunch.

Like a fender Frontman 15 watter, those are like $60 I think would be good. Tab books maybe would be good?

How about a capo, a nice guitar cable (like the Fender Vintage Voltage), a good case, or this Planet Waves combination string winder and cutter?

Check out the Planet Waves website. They have lots of little knickknacks you can't possibly live without. 8)

How about a guitar stand for those quick breaks from practice or the Fender clean and polish kits so you can keep your Squire looking new? You can get either of those for less than $20.

How about a 10 pack of strings. They are on sale at GC for about 20 bucks. 10 sets will last sometime and you will have them handy when you need them. You could also get a play-along dvd, they have many to choose from and once you understand a little bit from the "Getting started" dvd you can practice songs or at least parts of songs.

I've never tried them, but Danelecto makes some pretty cool looking effects pedals on the cheap ($20 range).

Thanks for the tips. Any others would be great as well.

As for strings, what gauge should one normally get for a Fender Squier? Is it the .009? What type should I get too, since there seems to be many different types like standard tension and light regular and so on. What brand should I get? And how hard is it to change strings by yourself? (could I ask more questions> LOL--sorry I ask so much. I want to make the best decision I can as far as that is concerned)

I've been looking at Planet Waves and the guitar tattoos look pretty sweet.

The winder I definitely added to my wish list along with Fender clothes. ;) The shirt I got off the Fender website was cool, but that XL was really small.

I have an amp (my baby amp SP-10), but I'm looking for one with more effects on it and better reverb for heavy metal.

The easiest way to determine the correct gauge is to go to the Squier Guitars website and look up your guitar. Click on "Specifications" and look for "Strings" in the chart. For example, the Squier Standard Strat comes equipped with Fender Super 250L, (.009 to .042) Nickel Plated Steel, P/N 073-0250-003

There are lots of brands to choose from. I use Ernie Ball Super Slinkies (.009-.042). Try different brands and see what you like. They're cheap enough for you to experiment.

Changing your strings is not difficult. Here's a video that will teach you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4uS8c98j1s

You can do it! 8)

Strings, guitarists always need strings.
.009s or .010s for most players

A metal slide, brass or chrome. A cord, monster or mogami if you don't already have one. A microphone and stand, not too expensive though because you may want a wireless rig in the future and that will be a little higher priced.

How about a good instructional DVD or two that deal with a techniques she is trying to get down. Plus that is something that you both could use.
