I'm not sure if you guys are aware, but I received word from Gibson earlier this week that they have cancelled their production on the Experience Hendrix guitar packs. No more strat clone.

All I can say is, Gibson listened to the fuss that we Fender fans made.

Hallelujah.

The fuss we made was nothing on the fuss Gibson fans made. Cant say I blame em either.

Cheers for the insider view ED.

I was hoping they nixed the idea based on the fact that they were god awful hideous looking guitars...

Basically they didn't think it would be a worthwhile investment, in the long run - and there are too many other brands out there that cater for that area, it's just not worth diving into.

Not to mention that the hendrix estate changed their mind.

I think it's a good choice they stuck to USA made 'uns (Excluding the smaller brands they own).

And here I was, fully prepared to unload all my pristine Strats to get, "The Experience". Oh well, I guess I'll just have to get my spurious 'experience' now through Road Worns. :P :P :P

I wonder who gets to keep the prototype(s).
I imagine they must've made at least one or two.
Do you think they'd destroy them all, if they did?

Now i want one.

They made a lot of them, not just prototypes. They were about to distribute them. Don't be surprised to see a guitar simular to that one in a cheap outlet store near you. Don't expect them to say they are the Herdrix Strat though.

Gibson and Experience can keep them.

Now this is truly a case where the public backlash I believe truly played a major impact on the decision of this product being shelved. I think Gibson wound up doing the right thing by taking the loss on the money spent on the guitars that they already produced and I think they also got bailed out again by Les Paul bless his soul. As the timing of his passing (In no way am I saying this in with any disrespect as we all loved Les) came at the perfect time and carried the extreme magnitude to over shadow the negative press they were getting over the Hendrix guitars. He has done so much for that company they should just change the name from Gibson to Pauls.

Ah, the universe is once again perfectly in balance. Probably a smart move for Gibson to give that one up.

The ironic thing is that if the same thing happened except the guitar was a Flying V, it would have passed muster and worked. The real mistake was duplicating the Strat.

I think Gibson scrapped the Hendrix Strat so they could make room for another Kiefer Sutherland guitar...although he already has one signature Gibson, Kiefer is a player who deserves a guitar more than this Hendrix guy....  J/K...

Gibson needs to stop trying to charge 1000 for a epiphone and 1799 for a studio. They are the wrost guitars being made right now and way over priced. I have a 1988 gold top and love it but as far as buying new, i would rather buy a esp or ltd les paul!
