As some of you may know, this past year my mother has been battling with cancer. In fact this was actually her sixth round with this dreaded disease having had breast cancer 3 times before this (lost a breast), then skin cancer twice after that. Last fall she had been diagnosed with new tumors on her liver and on one of her lungs and this past summer it moved in to her brain with 6 new tumors causing her to have a major seizure. I think may I have mentioned this in one or two places here on the forums in various posts.

She had been going through chemo and various treatments over the past year and had been handling all of that fairly well but the past few months things were particularly difficult for her since the cancer had moved in to her brain. They had her on various medications and such to control seizures as well as morphine for the pain but as a result, she had pretty much stopped eating. In the past couple of months she has been in and out of a hospice then later a multi care facility as she was no longer able to even get out of bed. My wife and I live out of town, my brother lives out of state and my father is 76 and has health issues of his own (he had 2 back to back heart attacks last summer) so we were not able to give her the 24/7 care that she needed at home.

Anyways, day before yesterday, Wednesday October 21 at 12 noon, my mother passed away...she was 73. My brother, my father and I were all with her so she had her family there when she left us. The official cause of death was respiratory failure related to lung cancer. After some discussion, my father has decided that he's not going to have any formal services for her...he is having her cremated and he will take her ashes out to the lake at the campground where she spent a good portion of her later years. She loved it out there and this seems the most fitting for her as a final resting place.

I wanted to post this here as a number of people here at the Fender forums have expressed their many kind thoughts and warm wishes over the past year as my family and I have been going through this. I wanted to take a moment and say thank you again...my family and I -are- most grateful. The coming days and weeks will probably be a little difficult as we still have to go through all of her things at the house and we have a number of family issues to sort out, but my mother is now at peace.

Bright Blessings,
Jim

Jim,

Sorry to hear about your loss. It always saddens me to hear that someone has cancer. Take comfort in knowing she is not suffering any longer, and is in a much better place. I lost my father and father inlaw to that same dreaded disease. The idea for putting her to rest in one of her favorite places is a great idea. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

My sincere condolences to you & your family.

Cancer is a demon & i (& lots of others here, i'm sure)
have lost far too many loved ones to the demon myself.

My grandfather, who i was extremely close to & who practically raised
me after school every day for my first 14 years, didn't even recognize me
at the end &, 20+ years later, i remember all too well what an awful, awful
feeling that was.

I hope that you & your family can find peace & take comfort in all your
good memories of your mom & the knowledge that she suffers no more.

Love to your family.

my heart goes out to you and your family. my wife and i both lost our moms to cancer so i know where you're coming from.
when the tough times come and i'm all by myself, i sometimes pray - "mom, i need a hug". she always shows up.
you'll never really be without her.
