Gang: we were sitting around earlier this morning talking about the Products section of Fender.com this morning and it suddenly occurred to us, rather than speculate about what it is and what it should be, why not get out there and ask YOU FINE PEOPLE? :-)

I'd like to get your detailed feedback on that section of our site and 100% of comments received will be used at an upcoming presentation that I'm working on, so if you'd like your voice to be heard about the future direction of our site you're both welcome and encouraged to do so. Also, please feel free to be brutal -- if you do like that section of the site as is then that's great, please pipe in ... but if you DON'T like it, it's OK to say so. Above all what I'd really, really like to see here is folks sharing links of product sections both inside and outside the guitar industry that they feel do a great job of it.

There's no specific format needed here -- let's keep it an open-ended discussion and see where it leads. Looking forward to hearing from you!

My personal opinion, although I've heard the same from others, is that it is very informative and to the point. Some great info available on the products such as :

-Ability to enlarge images
-Locate dealers
-Features in about 18 languages
-Specs, owner's manual, color charts, etc.
-Artists using the products
-Variety of models available

Nice work, keep it going! 8)

Hi Brad, and thanks for the opportunity to add our two cents to the site.

A good starting point might be this thread from January: http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... hp?t=16354

Two things that I would especially like to see in the Fender products section are

1. Horizontal photographs of the guitars so we don't have to scroll to see the entire thing

2. Sound clips of all instruments

Thanks again for seeking our feedback! 8)

That's what I'm talkin' about, and I agree -- the instrument shots should be horizontal to take better advantage of the display space. Thanks for the feedback and I'm hoping more folks will step up and not be shy here!

I don't know if this could be possible, but I think that the ability to compare the specs of two or more different guitars (or amplifiers) side by side would be really cool. We get a lot of questions from people who want to know what the difference is between one particular guitar and another. So a feature like that might be useful to a lot of people. :)

I like all the suggestions so far.

This one might be a little outrageous, but how about a build your own guitar program? What I mean we all have seen/done "what's your dream guitar?" right. This one will allow you to choose your own specs, color, necks, ect. Then you could possibly give us a quote on a price to build it. It could also be a tool for the Custom Shop guys to get orders.

Hello Brad Traweek,

I'd be interested in seeing a retired colors page.
One step further would be instruments no longer produced.

My thoughts.

Cheers.

1) VG is retired ... this should be at the bottom of the list.
2) The Vintage Hotrod line are in the same vein as the Classic and Classic Player lines. So move up Vintage Hotrod to be with these other two. Also, Fender should consider melding these three lines into a single product line seperated by different models (instead of having three distinct lines). It would be a lot cleaner that way.
3) The Artist line is the only line to have two pages. Because of this I bet there are many people who navigate to that page and not even realize there is a second page. My suggestion is to just include the page two guitars on page one (so there is only a single page like the others).
4) Why are there guitars that don't have pictures for all of their different colors? I mean, c'mon ... did you guys run out of money for the photographer?

Retired products section definitely. Many of us own older products and still could use the resources. Also, to help used buyers keep from getting ripped off.

A troubleshooting guide would be awesome.

Okay, this might be a technical nightmare but video demos of each model, that demonstrate their sound in each position, unique features, etc. would be neat. I've seen demos like this on Youtube, done by guitar dealers and they're very informative.

Also, I totally agree with a previous suggestion for being able to generate a comparison of two or more guitars...

Another wrinkle to this idea could be for a person to input their preferred characteristics (e.g. fretboard radius, pickups, etc.). Then the site could recommend a model or models based on closest match.

I also like texasguitarslinger's suggestion of a compare feature. Look at car websites to see how they do it.

Pics of all the guitars in their current color availability would be nice.

Hi Brad,
I think the current, is pretty good. Maybe a little reorganization of the products with more detail about them. As said before, sound bites and/or video clips. Demos are great selling tools...

you should also try having a left handed section for the guitars, it may sound stupid. But you should have a lefty section showing all the Fender models that are available and where you can purchase that certain model. I think it would be a good idea.

Spec window should have Country of origin.

Add line for fretboard radius, rather than only listing it as a special feature. not everyone knows what the standard radius is, and with so many models it's needed info.

Also, you have a line for the kind of case, so it probaby doesn't need to be listed under the accessories line, unless its one of the models that comes with more than one case, like the nocaster, or with a case and a gig bag.

A 3-D model you could drag to rotate in all directions would be sweet, if it's possible. Maybe a dress up window, where you could change finish colours, pickguard, knobs etc. to see what models would look like with their various options.

Also no more colours with no photo.

A search box with dropdowns to search by pickup config, finish, etc would be sweet. say you don't know what a certain model is called, but you saw one with HSH config, you could search and get all models with that option.

Maybe better descriptions of some special options, like Black Dove pickups are special enough to name the Telecaster model after, maybe say what's so special about them. This could be as simple as linked text you click to go to a separate product page for said feature.

A compare tab, to save specs of a few guitars, and do a side by side A/B comparison.

All in all these are tweaks. overall it is a pretty good start right now.
