I have been using Dunlop Tortex 1.14mm picks. They are very good. The only problem I have had with them is that they required some getting used to because they slipped between my fingers while strumming chords. After I got used to them they were fine. I've been happy with them, but wanted to try a couple of others:

I just tried 1.14mm Dunlop Big Stubby picks. I definitely do not like them because the plastic wears at the tip and my notes sound bad. I tried filing the tip of the pick to remove the seam, but the seam returns and the sound deteriorates.

The best pick I have ever tried, bar none, is the Dunlop 1.14mm Ultex pick. These are fabulous. I love these picks. The notes sound wonderful. The picks are comfortable. I highly recommend them.

I also have some problems holding onto the pick at times and have been using 2 types of Cool Picks, the Juratex and the CoolCell http://www.elderly.com/brand/COOL%20PICKS.html
and they are very good. I've been wanting to try the Dava Grip Tips http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/ ... D=26017821

Has anyone here used the Davas?

I've used alot of different picks but the tortex picks are the best ones so far. The only thing with them is after a while the grip wears off and i have to punch holes in them to regain grip control. I have also used the Dava Control picks and they are okay if you want a thick edge thin middle type pick.

I use Dunlop Jazz III's and they don't turn on me.

I do have a tip for you: I used to drill little holes in my picks with a non-electric drill. The skin from your fingers fills in the holes and there is no way the pick will shift. It also makes the picks pretty impossible to drop. :)

There was a great pick made by a company called MacPhearson. It had a cut-out in the middle. I think they went out of business.

+1 on the Jazz III's. Never leave home without them... 8) Mike

I have been playing Dunlop nylon pics for years. In fact I have one that I have had for 3 years now and it is still going. I play with .73's and .88's.

I recently bought a V-pick sample pack. They have really grown on my. They are a little thicker than I prefer, but the sound you get from them is awesome.

I've been playing for like 20 years. In my metal years, I played .60 Dunplop nylons. Switched to Gator 2.0's, then Gator 1.5's during my grunge/blues phase. Then, for some reason, they started to sound like mush to me.

Swtiched to Ultex 1.4. Loved them, but then they started to sound too bright and wore out too fast. Switch to Tortex .88's and LOVED them, but liked the Pitch Black version. The black version was a smoother plastic and sounded smoother, which I didn't like. I've been using the normal green ones for the last year or so. Love them. I like the black/chrome look of the black, but the feel, durability and tone from the greens are perfect to me. I've use these for a while.

Anyone try Lignum Vitae Surfpicks? Been wanting to try one but can't bring myself to spend $10 on a pick. Especially when one of the kids can't find theirs and get into mine.

On a related note - what have you guys used when you can't seem to find a pick anywhere? I've been known to use a Pepsi tab, poker chip, paper clip, or pretty much anything lying around. Some sound pretty good!

Have a couple surfpicks they are good.paid more for em though $15 however have picked up a fab four V pick package and am impressed.been adding to those since with ruby reds.4 bucks a piece if bought seperate.package you get four and most tmes an extra of their choice here http://www.v-picks.com/picks look at pkg deals tab.one day gonna get a dimension buffed(near bottom in link) as they sound interesting and last forever.
hope this helps.at first could not justify spending the $ for picks having cool picks already but glad I tried em. like them a lot.
on a related note have used coins for picks too

Glad someone posted this thread. I'm having a hard time holding my picks. They keep sliding out of my fingers (I use Fender mediums). I have one of those that attach to your thumb that works but it's cheap and it's wearing already.

I'll have to sample some of those.
