I've heard that kind of music before and enjoyed it very much. My brother and I have tried it. Not easy to do. Today's players are stuck in a speed rut. I can appreciate the music they make as well. But, growing up I was a big fan of The Mothers of Invention, Captain Beefheart, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Miles Davis in his 70's/Bitches Brew phase... Even Andy Summers would do short little sections of that kind of playing in his solos. And what about Sonic Youth?... What about Primus?... Just because it's not for everyone doesn't make it any less valid a style of playing...

Well, I haven't even been able to afford to leave my driveway since I lost my job last year. But, so far I'm still hangin' in there. Anyway...

Growin' up, I was a big Beatles' fan. Then, one day I was over my friend's house listening to records and he played me Zappa's Uncle Meat... and from there I began to seek out other types of music.

However, my own stuff is pretty simple. I have some of it up on MySpace. (http://www.myspace.com/donbrodie) I don't have a band, so it's just me. That could change... I recorded it using SONAR HS, so it would be easy to change. I plan to get my brother involved. He plays a good lead and he also plays a good blues harp.

I also have a space for my old garage band from the 70's... (http://www.myspace.com/anthem1978)... It's funny... I don't have much of a voice but I wind up singing anyway. I still keep in touch with those guys. The bassist and drummer play in two bands. The Road Dogs and The Peace Creeps. I don't know where they find the time.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is as long as there's a fan base for what an artist does, then it's all good... right?

Your music sounds better than most of the rock bands playing in Hollywood right now.

As long as you keep playing, you'll only get better. Even if your playing wrong (which you're not) you will improve.

I try really hard to keep my mind open. I have a few students, and they are always surprising me with original ideas about music and about the guitar.
