I've had my Highway One since 2007 and my frets need to be leveled and re-crowned already. Yes, they are pretty worn now. I don't recall frets wearing down that quickly. Similarly, I've had my Road Worn for about four months now and frets are showing wear, and may need leveling and re-crowning soon from what I see.

Are fret wires made cheaper now?

I think it's possible the longer your play guitar in your life the faster your frets wear as your playing improves and you do more and more bends and vibratos.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

You could always go stainless on your next fret job.

I've heard many good things about them. One, that they out last the conventional frets about 10 to 15 years. Not really good for guitar techs or repair shops as refret jobs will decrease. Are the stainless frets more expensive and how is the tone?

I don't have them myself, yet. They are listed as an option on Warmoths website when you order a neck so I would assume they could answer this question if nobody here can.

I've been interested in putting in Stainless Frets when I finally need to get any of my guitar refretted. I've talked to some luthiers about it, and they tell me that it is more difficult to do, due to the harder metal. One Luthier told me that they have to go through a set of files when doing a fret job with Stainless Steel Frets. Also.......yes........much more expensive to have them put on Stainless Steel Frets than Nickel. But......in my way of thinking.......they'll last longer. I've also noticed that some Luthiers prefer not to work with Stainless, and will turn down the job.
