Just shooting the breeze here...if you could design your guitar, what would it look like?

Me, I'm thinking of just aesthetics right now instead of the sound.

I would love to have the body in several different styles:

1. Black with quotes from famous authors like Shakespeare, esp Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet (which would allow for some killer graphics of roses, rings, and daggers) or Edgar Allan Poe with "The Raven" quotes all over it (and have a flying raven on the body somehow)

2. Black with a red dragon--and have the tail somehow look like it's wrapped around the neck of the guitar up and including the headstock. (okay, maybe a bit cliche)

3. A purple heartagram (okay, I like the band HIM along with apocalpytica)

4. Some sort of skull and crossbones design. (I know, cliche)

Number one is actually my first choice. Don't know why I thought of this topic, but I was wondering if anyone ever wanted to design their own guitar and what would it look like?

What's your dream guitar? (looks, sound, strings, etc)

I've always thought the Les Paul had the sexiest shape of all guitars even though I'm mostly a Fender man at heart. If I was going to make my own guitar from scratch I'd prolly use a very close approximation of the LP shape and then basically copy most of what EVH did with his new Wolfy. I tried one of those a few weeks ago and they are quite impressive. Except for the odd looking lines on the body and headstock they did a damned fine job building a Primo guitar there. Not that I'm a locking nut, dive bombing, glam-rock shredder but it does sound really good and it does stay in tune and it does feel real solid. Can't get past the looks though. Goofy.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Hello LadyVandettaAngel,

I've got all the parts to assemble my
custom Billocaster, except a body.
One of these days I'm gonna come
up with a grand idea and get it done.

But not tonight.

Cheers.

All very cool ideas.

Me, I have my perfect strat - a 98 MIA that's been modded a lot since I got it new years ago. I stripped the black paint and my son and I refinished it in a nice vintage wood stain.

I've thought about having some cool design subtle wood-burned into it. Like an Indian hand henna design.

Cool ideas....

I would love to see a white background and than let my artistic kids paint some designs and pictures on it. They've all won awards for their drawing skills but there is a huge difference in what each of them draws detail-wise and in subject matter. Their ages are 16, 13, and 7 so it would be a good "timepiece" of what they are capable of now.

Or maybe a "swirled guitar" where you float the paint on water and submerge it, those are kind of cool.

And a maple on maple neck if possible with a headstock painted to match whatever design I went with.

Hi LadyVendettaAngel: hmmm - OK, let's do it.

Will you have those quotes screen printed on, painted on, or inlayed? And while we're about it - which quotes?

Hamlet: Why, look you now, how unworthy a
thing you make of me. You would play upon
me; you would seem to know my stops; you
would pluck out the heart of my mystery; you
would sound me from my lowest note to the top
of my compass; and there is much music, ex-
cellent voice, in this little organ, yet cannot you
make it speak. 'Sblood, do you think I am
easier to be played on than a pipe? Call me
what instrument you will, though you can fret
me, you cannot play upon me.

Hamlet III, ii, 386 - 396

Cheers - C

I would like an offset ash body wth strat style horns, jag controls, chrome control plates, crimson transparent finish, black pickguard, with matching headstock, ebony fretboard bound with block inlays.

Body: Les Paul + V ( The cutaway would be from a LP and the bottom would be from a V ).

Neck: Maple 24-frets

Fret inlays: BLAST

Pickups: '57 Classic Humbuckers

Headstock: Fender Strat

Finish: Goldtop, with some "red sparks".

Pickup selector: LP style

Control knobs: 2 volume, 2 control.

And most importantly... Model name: Blast's Gold

Wow, lots of great ideas!!!! I love reading your ideas because this tells me what to look for in my next guitar as far as sound and other 'stuff' like that. Cool.

Dang, now I know where that quote was from. I remember the 'fret me, you cannot play me.' Good old Hamlet.

Not sure what I'd do with the lettering. I'd go with inlay, but wouldn't that ruin the guitar.

I'd like a walnut Strat with a rosewood neck & fingerboard--black pickguard (or a walnut veneer on the pickguard) & black pickup covers, and black hardware.

A koa Moderne.

A Bubinga top on a semihollow with a trapeze bridge.

I would like a Strat with the paint job the custom shop presidential came with. That wine stain with a rosewood fret board and the volume and tone knobs set up in a tele configuration away from the bridge. I am drooling just thinking about it.

I already built it. (check out my web) A Jackson style neck with a Strat body (I don't like the Jackson body much). Only thing I'd like now is a trem but the ash body sounds so good as a hard tail.

I got a real 24 fret Jackson neck now and I'm making a body for it. Not sure where I'm going with this one.

I already did.....and the Custom Shop didn't get it quite right. So I wrote to them as follows:

"Lay on MacDuff!, and woe to he who cries "Hold! Enough!"

I've always wanted a strat with my state flag painted across the whole body, pickups and pickguard. and yes....my state flag has frontal nudity. but that's not why i like it. I think it's beautiful yet basic, bold but not flashy. My county flag is very simular as well. Chesterfield County, Va. State flag is a navy blue with seal showing a woman standing over a fallin man (almost look like old greek soldiers in their tunics.) County flag is white with the same style seal, but has a coalminer leaning on his pickaxe. (coal in the US was first mined in chesterfield county a mile or so from my house). oh, flamed maple neck!

The vendetta thing throws you off angel, as far as a guitar dream, single cut away- tele, double cut away- strat, just a couple of dreams I have, oh yea strings, try 'em all, color/ visual design, if you play real good no one will care what color it is but what ever you suggested is OK.
