For that problem you need to put a shim right at the forward edge of the neck pocket. (toward the headstock)

Shimming out there will raise the end of the neck/heastock and create the need to lower the saddles a bit to get the strings down where they belong. It only takes a little, tiny, thin shim to make a difference.

Personally, I like the adhesive backed sand paper because it holds the shim in place when your putting the neck back on, and the sand paper grit helps keep the neck in place.

Still, shimming the neck won't do any good if the saddle's threads are stripped. It will change what part of the adjustment screw the saddle is supposed to contact, but it won't grip any better.

Whether the saddle is stripped or not, the guitar is still in need of a proper set-up. I'm fairly certain that will solve the problem and have the added benefit of making the guitar even more enjoyable to play.
