I am going to be purchasing a hygrometer not only for my guitars, but also to keep an eye on the humidity levels this winter. I seem to be accumulating moisture on my windows.
Does anyone have any recomendations on a particular model and what levels I should be looking for? I live in Saskatchewan Canada where it gets pretty cold and dry.

Thanks.

Hi yodacaster: I know people who use these gizmos for old classical instruments that require proper care. So I guess the advice on this page can be taken seriously:

Hope it helps.

I have one I keep in my guitar room. I purchased it at Walmart for about $10.00. Mine is an Acu Rite brand and seems to work well. From the things I've read ideal humidity for guitars is 45% - 55%. In the winter I keep my acoustic guitars in the cases with a sound hole humidifier inserted. Usually I have to add water about once a week.

I have the opposite problem in winter.
Had 3 large fish tanks that kept the whole house humidity way too high. Always running a de-humidifier in winter.
Got rid of 2 of the tanks, only have 1 * 120 gallon tank left and humidity seems to be hovering around 60% now with the windows closed for winter. Time to start the de-humidifier again.

If costs of power keep going up might have to dispose of the last tank, that would at least cure the high humidity issue.

Anyway I picked up some cheap Magna-Temp RH% meters, cost about 3$ each and they seem to work quite well.
