I can't believe it is left to me, who has been a registered Republican for more years than most of you have been alive, to say something positive about our President recieving the Nobel Peace Prize.

Maybe the rest of the world thinks it is a milestone for a President of the United States to have black heritage. Maybe there are people in places that don't have our freedoms that think that our President has already accomplished something for peace and hope by just taking office...

If you would like me to give you an example of something that our Prsident has done that may seem small to you that may loom larger in other parts of the world:

He has said he will talk to peole without prior conditions. Now thing about that for just a bit. In the past or leaders have tried to impose conditions on people before they could speak to us. Remember back a couple of weeks when former President Bill Clinton went to North Korea and got the journalist freed? There are people around the world that think that our President may have had a clue that was going on... :P

We have a leader that has the world's attention, and one that may be able to change a few things for the better. Is there a small chance that we could pull along in the direction of our Commander and Chief a little more like patriots?

Thanks a heap... and for the record I agree with everyone who reminds me that we should be talking about Fender.

If Our President sends the Mother of one of Our fallen Soldiers to accept the Nobel Peace Prize then I would think that he has a heart and soul and maybe even a mind of his own.

He who lives upon hope will die fasting.

Mentioning the word Obama and Patriot in the same post immediately negates all the rest of what you wrote.

And no, there is no small chance that we could "all pull together" for Obama. If you are truly a Republican, which I doubt, then you would understand that the policies, changes and ideas this man has in mind for our country are not a good thing.

This man should have never been awarded the Nobel peace prize, but given the makeup of the committee deciding the award, it is obvious why he was awarded with the prize.

End of my rant and I won't comment again.

You are right. I was a registered Republican but I am NO MORE. I am proud to have voted for Regan. The last eight years of ruin for our country cured me.

I used to be a Gibson player too.

"I can't believe it is left to me, who has been a registered Republican for more years than most of you have been alive, to say something positive about our President recieving the Nobel Peace Prize."

I really ashamed that I didn't, but I didn't want to contribute to the negative energy already present in the 'other' post. Most all of the 'protesters' are geezers, who still don't think a African-American should be President of the United States.

In a interview on Friday the Nobel jury strongly defended it's decision:

"We simply disagree that he has done nothing," committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland told the AP on Tuesday. "He got the prize for what he has done."

Jagland singled out Obama's efforts to heal the divide between the West and the Muslim world and scale down a Bush-era proposal for an anti-missile shield in Europe." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33291989/ns/politics-white_house/

This is all I say on the matter, it's back to music for me.

Dropping the missle shield was a slap in the face to Poland and Czech Republic all he wanted to do was cave into Russia because they did not want it. He is a weak leader and the other World leaders are thinking the same thing and one of them is going to test him sooner or latter. At this time it looks like it may be Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

That’s BS!

I work in an aerospace research lab operated by the government, and Bush first announced the plan for the missile shield, all the engineers shook their heads. Why? Because they knew that the missile shield would not work, and would cost the US taxpayer billions of dollars.

But luckily enough, President Obama’s advisors saw this and recommended that the plan be scrapped, much to dismay of the defense contractors, and the lobbyists who stood to make millions.

The missile shield also scared the Russians, they saw this as threat to their homeland, and was leading to another ‘Cold War’, for this reason alone President Obama deserved the award.

Oh, and to add, the previous system approved by Gates back in 2006 scanned at 360 degrees which would have given it visibility to Russian launch sites. This system would not have been active for another 5-8 years. The new system is directional.

This will allow Russia to see the system is pointed southward towards Iran, which is the goal. On top of that, the new system will be in place earlier.

This new system will be combined with Aegis cruisers in the eastern Med along with other sites to contain Iran and protect Israel.

I heard this yesterday on C-SPAN from Gates and the deputy Joint Chief of Staff.

Obama was only in office for twelve days before the nomination deadline for a Nobel. Twelve days! The Nobel jury violated their own rules and gave this award for political reasons, not for accomplishments.

Members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee said their choice could be seen as an early vote of confidence in Obama intended to build global support for his policies. They lauded the change in global mood wrought by Obama's calls for peace and cooperation, and praised his pledges to reduce the world stock of nuclear arms, ease American conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthen the U.S. role in combating climate change.

Aagot Valle, a lawmaker for the Socialist Left party who joined the committee this year, said she hoped the selection would be viewed as "support and a commitment for Obama."

"And I hope it will be an inspiration for all those that work with nuclear disarmament and disarmament," she told The Associated Press
in a rare interview. Members of the Nobel peace committee usually speak only through its chairman.

The peace prize was created partly to encourage ongoing peace efforts but Obama's efforts are at far earlier stages than past winners'. The Nobel committee acknowledged that they may not bear fruit at all.

"Some people say, and I understand it, isn't it premature? Too early? Well, I'd say then that it could be too late to respond three years from now," Nobel Committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland said. "It is now that we have the opportunity to respond — all of us."
