I went to an old timers jam last night at the American Legion here in town.
It was for the Country Music association local chapter. I've never seen so many vintage Fender gear under one roof. It was like going back in time to the 50's and 60's. There was a lot of old Jazzmasters and Jaguars. Lots of tweed cases and old Deluxes. I saw an old blond Twin, and I think it was a Fender Coronado, the Fender electric that looks like a Gibson 335. All the bass players had old Precision basses. I heard a lot of big fat jazz chords and lics to die for. Surprizingly enough, I only saw one old Tele, about a '61, and no Strats on site. Those senior citizen pickers really knew how to play, and they were more that happy to let me check out their gear and talk shop with me.

I've been to Iowa twice, and both times was blown away by the local talent.

One gear collector me told that the reason why there was so much vintage gear in Iowa was that the winter is cold that there isn't much to do but make music, or babies.

He's still finding guitars that were brought, played and later put in the closet.

That sounds like it was a really good time, and those country guys dont play around most of them have serious chops and are really good guys. Wish I was there.

Some country pickers are real shredders like Marty Stuart and his lead player(I forget his name)is incredibly fast and a riot to watch and the late Danny Gatton country shredder extraordinaire.
