Dude, I am totally cool with a time-capsule guitar ... as long as you're not playing a Hondo II year after year while the kept beast lays under the bed.

But ... you're killing me. What is it??? You have to tell us...

If it was me.......I'd play it. But it's your guitar, and it sounds like you have several to play, and you paid for it............so go with your feelings.

I did just the same thing with my 50th anniversary deluxe. In 20/30 years if i last that long, it will be a rare guitar. All I'm going to do is head down to my mums and give it a setup every year or so. Its worth tuning it down to D too.

It is a cool idea. I would not be able to resist playing it. I play every guitar in my house. I have 2 electrics, my daughter has 1 electric, and my son has an acoustic/electric; and I put them all through their paces at least once a month. Of course I play mine every day.

I understand where you are coming from as that is the frame of mind I am in now. But before I got injured I never had a guitar I did not play and would find it very Spinal Tap when I ran into someone that did. But where I am now I think it is fine if you want a collectable as there are thousands of guys who cant play a note that have axes we could only wish for, and that includes my lawyer.lol No I take that one back he can play.

Or maybe not. It's a crap shoot. I don't think the current production guitars will go up unless you have a CS or something.

Who knows what music will be like in 30-40 years? We might be doing brain music with telepathy or something and guitars may be a joke and worthless. I'd play the snot out of it.

If you can afford to have one stashed away and have other great ones to play than go for it.

I'm niether in that frame of mind or world of economics. My 3 Fenders are all pretty rare in that they are out of production, etc. But they are workhorses that I play, at least one of them every day.

90 Montara A/E
78 Musicmaster Bass
'03 Tie Dye Strat

I take care of them, clean them and try not to beat them up but they're all to comfortable NOT to play.

This is seriously true. It's the same thing with signature guitars. The best thing to do with any Fender guitar is play it and enjoy it.

I had a buddy of mine buy a 25th anniversary Firebird Trans Am. Brought it home from the dealer and stored it for investment purposes. It had 13 miles on it when he showed me a few years later. Don't know what he got for it years later. But, a car like that should be "driven like you stole it!" But he bought it as a speculative investment. Hope he did better than if he would have just taken the money and dumped it into CD's. So if you can afford to do it ... go for it. I hope in 30years my Clapton is worth what I paid for it. If not at least I will have played the sheeot out of it.

No one can predict the future or what something is going to be worth but I will just about guarantee that there are guitars that have been produced in the last 20 years that one day will bring back a good dollar. Now when I say that I do not mean the kind of money that vintage Fenders, Gibsons and a few other makes from the original vintage boom brought as that was a once in a lifetime thing. But if you are talking a guitar that might be worth 5 to 10 grand more than was paid I find that realistic. I have read interviews with some of the top collectors in the world and the main thing they say is buy American and also dont modify an ax you want to make an investment with and of course they have Fender and Gibson guitars still as the ones to buy. I have my own ideas also of what might be a hot ax of the future. Dont forget there was and is a very big shred movement and even though I dont own an Ibanez or early Jackson or Kramer guitar there are a bunch of young guys who are going to become Doctors and Lawywers and just plain super wealthy that are going to want an ax they played when they were young just like baby boomers want there Fender and Gibsons plus you have to look at guitar Gods like Vanhalen,Rhoads,Vai,Satch, Dimebag and the like and figure that into the equation . The bottom line it is anybodies guess and I say play the $@!& out of your guitar but take care of them. The biggest selling point when I cruise ebay or any forum where guitars are sold is condition and things being original, and unless a guitar was issued as a relic that bullsh!t selling promo by someone who did not take care of there ax so they put up natural Relic for a 5 year old guitar does not work. Out of the 2 guitars that I played the most over the years one is stock and one is heavily moded and they would never be sold. If you are going to mod just dont go crazy and do it to every ax you have and in a way that cant be changed back if you have intentions of selling it one day.
