Well, our last gig together is coming up tonight. We're going to play a few of our best songs, and I even get to play some keyboard on one.

Maybe our drummer has made up his mind by now about whether he's going to stay or go. I'm still going to be practicing drums like crazy this week just in case.

Well, I wish you guys the best of luck tonight!! Feel the beat and go with the flow. And just know this; it'll all work itself out. 8)

I misunderstood, this was actually our second to last gig. Our last one is next week. But I played like it was our last, so I guess that's a good thing.

Wives, Mothers and Grandparents are among the most selfish people in the world IMO when it comes to letting musicians have practice time and gigs.

Pardon my saying so, but that is in itself a very selfish comment. I'm sure the wives, mothers and grandparents would say the musicians are being selfish for practicing and gigging rather than attending to X, Y or Z. A little perspective is needed on both sides of this equation. 8)

Yes, probably so. There has to be a balance and it's different for different families. My family is totally into music and totally willing to make time for it. So it's kind of hard for me to imagine a family that isn't quite as crazy. Although sometimes there's a point where it gets to be too much for us too, and we need a break.

My band leader has been doing this for six years (I'm a more recent arrival since I only started with the band a year ago) and I'm sure that after six years his family is feeling it. And unlike my extended family, his is pretty close (they actually like hanging out together) so I can understand how giving up his time with them for gigs with (and for) a bunch of teenagers would be hard.

Tex I am going to keep it real here. You love the place you are at right now but to be honest you know this band was not going to last forever. The age differences are way to vast to begin with and like Russianracehorse pointed out what you might think as being selfish are just responceabilities older members have. I think it is great what the guy who heads the band does, but in a way he is holding on to a part of his youth and love of playing but in reality he has a family and things that come first in his life before music. You are very young so you can put your heart and soul into your music 100% especially that your family supports what you are doing. But you are only young once, and I believe you have the drive and determination to give it a real shot at making a living doing what you love. I dont think you should put down your guitar to play drums just to keep something going because you want to be a guitarist not a drummer. There are going to be many obstacles and hurdles and decisions that you are going to face. What if in three years you are clicking with a band that you really love playing with and someone waves a contract but only wants to sighn you. Well these things happen,in fact that last one happened to Ann Wilson of Heart. The bottom line is you are going to play with a lot of people but you only have a time frame to really make it.So give it everything you have, and always remember playing is a gift that will always be with you if you live to be 100.
