Is there anyone on this board who is old enough, or knows someone who had met Leo Fender? I find Mr Fender's life and accomplishments so amazing and inspiring. I've read all the bios I can find on him, and he just sounds like a really cool guy to sit and talk with.
Once, while working at a music store in Iowa back in the 80's, I had the pleasure of talking to George Fullerton while he was at G&L. We were a G&L dealer at the time, and I had a question or two about a guitar we had; I called G&L and George picked up the phone and we talked for quite a while. he was not only interested in our concerns with the guitar, but about the store and ourselves.

Nice story. How great is it when someone you hold in such high regard also turns out to be a super cool person as well. There used to be a club in NYC called the Ritz and it used to be packed on a Monday of all nights. They had a downstairs and an upstairs that looked over the dance floor, and this big screen used to come down and show videos. I was hanging out one night upstairs leaning against the railing watching the screen and talking to the guy standing next to me. The Ramones Rock and Roll High School video came on and I said to the guy you look just like the guy in the Ramones and he laughed and said I am in the Ramones and it was Tommy Ramone and he brought me over and introduced me to Joey which I thought was super cool at 18.

I spoke to Les Paul one night while I was gigging in New York City. He wanted to record with me - I told him I was too busy.......

I got an Email from Roger Mayer(Jimi's pedal inventer)just a few days ago in reply to an Email I sent him regarding Vox Wah pots. That's my closest brush with someone famous.Oh yes I just remembered I had a real good chat with Willie Dixon during a break at one of his last concerts.I asked him what he thought of Jimi's cover of Hootchie Cootchie Man he liked it.I asked him if he met Jimi he said yes "He was a strange cat but he was cool"

I did a thread asking if anyone had ever met Leo. Nobody posted that they had besides me.

Leo shared a booth with my friend Jim Kelley at a NAMM show. Jim introduced me to Leo. Here is a link to a picture from that year:

There was nobody waiting to talk to Leo he was just sitting in the booth. I guess he was getting the G&L stuff off the ground at the time. I would love to hear Jim talk about him. He must of discussed amp design and electronics with him. Can you imagine doing that?

that would've been awesome to meet Leo Fender. Only people I've met and hung out with that I thought were awesome people were Michael Angelo Batio, (back then he was just Michaelangelo) and Dimebag Darrell.

Dimebag without a doubt was the coolest guitar player I've ever met and it still pisses me off that he's gone.

thouston rules the roost on not only meeting great players, but having them as friends and people he has played with. I have met a ton of music biz people. Just a quick list:

Jeff "Skunk" Baxter
Mel Bay
Bill Lawrence
Leon Russell (just said hi)
Bob Wier
Steve Miller
Lonnie Mack (spotted him outside a club and talked to him)
Roger McGuinn
Eddie Van Halen (I was chicken to tell him I was a guitar player)
George Throughgood
Love (the band)

Nice list StratoBob. Mu51cman I was never a huge Pantera fan because I hate that guys voice. But I have never heard of a nicer guy than Dimebag, and this is before the tragedy that happened to him. Every person regular or famous always said the guy was a gem. Just a totally good guy who loved to party and had a good heart. For someone who was not a huge fan his death really got to me.

yeah he was awesome, and sorely missed. He was the Van Halen of thrash metal.
