Ive had an Ibanez RGT42 thru neck for the last 5 or so years. It was my first guitar that i purchased with my own money!

At the time I was into nu-metal, metal and heavy rock so it was good. In its stock specification It had a few weak points, mainly a crap cheap Floyd rose knock off that couldnt hold a tuning after more than 10 mins playing, and crap ibanez infinity pickups that produced more mud that sound.

I upgraded the bridge to a brass schaller floyd rose which could be driven across and still hold tuning!, and upgraded the pickups to seymour duncans and thus i had a window cracking, earthquake spawning, earsplitting metal machine!

Long story short, i had to put the guitar down due to studies and didnt play it for over 18 months. when i picked it up again i realized that i was no longer a metal head and was now a blues man. despite my best efforts, this guitar would not allow me to play blues so an Am Dx Strat was purchased.

My poor Ibanez sat in its case for over a year, only played once in a blue moon.

I hated seeing it left to die in a case so i put it up for sale. today a young dude came to look at it. He couldnt believe the near perfect condition of the guitar and how lucky he was to find one with those pickups and bridge, almost as if it was custom built for him. All for a quarter of the price of a new ibanez of similar spec.

So, its now in his hands, hopefully providing him with newfound inspiration and dedication, and hopefully he will play it like it deserves.

Anyway, below are a few pictures to the emerald beauty that was once mine. Lets hope he takes care of it eh?

Mine was a '59-'60 Danelectro double short horn, in black, with two pickups. Do you suppose I should have held on to it for sentimental reasons when I acquired my '58 Stratocaster about 50 years ago??? :? :( :?:

Do NOT ask me what happened to the Strat :!:  I've been through that already 'round these parts.

I thought about holding onto it for sentimental reasons, but a guitar needs to be played. I would rather someone else has it and makes good use of it, rather than it gather dust in a case in the corner of my room.

Also, the money raised will go towards more gear that's relevant to what I'm playing now.

All that was understood. Hope your choice stands the test of time. Obviously, mine did not.

I had an Ibanez exactly the same as that*, but coloured maroon with SSH pickup configuration. It was a nice guitar... I bought it to complement/back up a pewter Ibanez Sabre (anyone remember those? Used to be known as "the Frank Gambale one") that was a very sleek beast indeed. The Sabre was my first real self-funded acquisition, and I did love it at the time.

Eventually I realised that the locking tremolo system was not for me. I wasn't utilising it in any meaningful way, and it prevented me effectively using the techniques that define the electric guitar (as far as I'm concerned): precise string bends and solid vibrato. The week that dawned on me, I sold both guitars and bought a new Strat Ultra and a decent amplifier. That was in 1992... I've never looked back. Pretty as they were, those guitars became useless to me except as a means to buy something prettier and still going strong eighteen years later. I'd have to be in extremely dire straits to part with that Ultra -- another ten years, and it'll be my son's guitar (well, here's hoping... he's got a two-year-old's enthusiasm at the moment... if he can just retain that... heh).

You made the right choice, in my opinion! :)

*edit: OK, OK, mine was a bolt-on neck, but still...

I do not find it hard to let go of guitars. I have only parted with 2 guitars that I wish I still owned.

1. My heavily modified Squier HM III.
2. My Jackson V

Other wise I have not had anyproblems getting rid of guitars that I no longer played anymore. I usually sold them to young guitarists (cheap) so they had something nice to start out on.

Wow I could not of done it. Not that I dont understand but one day you might need an ax to use that has humbuckers for one reason or another. I believe a guitarist should have a single coil, humbucker and acoustic guitar. To be honest in the house I would play the acoustic way more than an electric and always found myself writing on an acoustic. The one thing about an Ibanez is I hate those skinny necks and dont enjoy playing them. But I like the way they sound. That was a real nice looking ax and I like the way you treat your gear. You can borrow an ax from me anytime.lol Doc I was like Whoa you have a 58! Then I finished the sentence and I guess it is a story you would rather forget my friend.I can relate it to fishing as twenty years later I still get a knot in my stomach when I think of the ones that got away.

CBS-Fender did me out of my guitar when I sent it out to California to be refinished 40 years ago. Bottom line is line is they swapped the body instead of refinishing it. How do I know for sure.....Mandolin Bros appraised that guitar for me about 15 years ago and, in taking it apart, determined that the body was a '64, not a '58  I have also eard that, back in the day, when you ordered a custom color, they would often refinish an existing sunburst body as opposed to starting from scratch.

If you want an idea of what my old guitar looked like new, find your way into Alain's catalog of photos and have a look at the guitar called "Buddy".

By the way... I have an '89 Clapton, an '08 Gilmour, a VG Strat, an LP, and a dinky old Robelli acoustic-electric. That should fall in line with the arsenal you deem appropriate. Quite a variety of voices there.

Doc that had to drain the blood right out of your head and leave you with ringing ears and a semi concise state of mind, as the guy from Mandolin Bros kept talking but you did not hear and everything seemed like it was in slow motion.Wow talk about the ultimate ripoff and the fact there was nothing you could do about it. Talk about a nightmare. Oh and by the way Doc I would not be surprised if the Feds payed you a visit after reading your current ax lineup. I think they were looking for those in Iraq. WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION.LOL

It was hard to believe in that the guitar had been in my possession since I acquired it from a bandmate who swapped it out for a Fender Jaguar the year they were released. I also acquired his Fender Concert a the saem time 'cause he went for a new Dual Showman. I've known that Strat since he purchased it new and had played it often, long before I actually owned it. So it HAD to be CBS-Fender at the heart of it.

First was a Harmony H-75 which looked like an ultra- cheap Jaguar.

'Missed it as soon as it was gone. 'Gotta wish your "old girfriend" or "old pal" well on the next part of their life-journey.
