Dudes a totally awesome little amp!

Tons of fun and it's the size of a lunchbox!
If you don't own one, get one.
Absolutely fantastic for noodling in the livingroom or out on the back porch.

It's a very basic little beast that ideally suits my Tele. :D

I had one of theose little guys for a bit,
great size. I wish it were also able to be
operated by a battery.

Cheers

Hey Mr. Bill, I use an old Pignose 7-100 for a battery operated amp. The little Champion 600 is sure easier to move around than my Carvin V3.

The Danelectro's are fun little amps too. Have you checked out "Smokey" amps? They run on a 9v battery, are the size of a pack of cigarettes, and sound pretty darned cool. I've even run a 4 X12 cabinet off mine for a bit just for fun. If you're curious you can find them on Ebay.

Hi Ho MThorn00,

Yes last year I sprang for a Little Smokey and used it
at work for a few months and then mysterously did a
dissappering act. That ended a guitar at work. The DanE
is alright one day I may step up to the 7-100.

Cheers.

I have a DRRI upstairs and just had a back injury. So I grabbed one of these little Champion 600's to bring downstairs and love it! I did change out the original tubes with a set of JJ's, and now I may change the speaker. I've heard many say a Weber or Jensen makes a huge improvement in sound. But works perfect just the way it is now.

You can get them for $150 new at GC. Plug it into a 2x12 and get breakup at around 2! Awesome.

I wish they were just 150 bucks here in australia. Here they list for $499. With the current exchange rate that's about $350USD which absolutely sucks!

True, I could not believe the prices other parts of the world pay for musical equipment, and yet ppl complain about the prices  I got my Champ600 for $399, that was the absolute lowest price anyone was willing to sell it to me for

How much was a set of JJs? I would like to change the tubes with something that will give me less distortion. What difference in the sound did the JJs make?

The 6V6 was $18.95, and the 12AX7 was $12.95. To my ears it made a big difference, much less distortion. But I'm told a Weber speaker makes a huge sound quality change.

Yikes! We could get a good Blues Jr for that price in the US. But I love my Champ, and there are some good mod's out there if you really want to punch up the sound.

Cool, I will look into some tubes first. I love the Champ600 too because it has a great tone. I have just change to 11 gauge strings which makes a huge difference in the sound too, but having the amp cleaner sounds good because there is a certain volume level I can get mine too before it just goes overkill. As for the mods I would have no problems spending money on this amp to modify it although I would have to hear a modded one in the flesh before I would commit to anything  What did you do with your old tubes? Mine are still good so I was wondering if I should keep them or not.

Ya I kept mine as a backup. The sales guy told me the tubes that come with the amp will last about 6 months, not sure if that is true or not? I just know they really made a sound quality change for me.

I think there are other posts here about the mod's to this little beast, but here seems the be the most popular just as an FYI

I have a Champ 600 too. i love it.

There have been people with bad experiences, but mine has been stellar.

I do think it is almost time for new tubes. I think i may mod it out, speaker and all. The thing is, amp makers have finally started producing really high quality low wattage tube amps. I wish they had been available years ago. Then i wouldn't have a handful of little solid state practice amps, that I was never quite happy with. don't get me wrong, they were worth the money. but i could never quite get the tones i wanted, at low volumes. the Champ 600 gives me that fender clean that i love, without an attached eviction notice.

I want to check out one of those marshall class 5's now too. then maybe a Vox.(i tried one out, but i like the fender clean sound better, so i chose the fender over it, but it is also a solid little amp, and i want to eventually ad that tone to my low volume amp farm.)
