KISS never has used Fenders, always the LesPauls for Frehley/Thayer, and Paul was an Ibanez Iceman player for years. I think his endorsement lately is still w/Washburn, either way they've never ventured far from the heavy double humbucker configurations.

I posted a link on here to KISS at "comic.con" or something festival where they did an impromptu performance with only 3 members present and Thayer was playing a Telecaster. I thought it was cool to see but instead I just got a bunch of replies on what a joke KISS was. Yeah, yeah....whatever you say. Here it is again.

Anyway, the only one of my favorite heavy bands that use Strats are Iron Maiden, but I believe that theirs are modified with the "hot rails" pickups to get the heavier tone.

I think Kiss was great on Letterman.

I loved the song and the sound.

I wish Ace was still with them, but I can't have everything.

Yeah, on my tangent before I never did comment on the performance on Letterman, they did a good job, good song, good album overall too. I'm pumped about going to see them on 11/7 in Minneapolis (18th time)

Have you heard the new Ace album Anomoly? It's good too. My only gripe with his release is that his vocals aren't strong enough to support a whole album, but the music is good. It would have been good if Ace/Peter had been around but Peter especially was not in the shape to continue, the last time I saw him his playing was awful. Eric and Tommy have brought in some needed new viewpoints and kick Gene/Paul in the $@! to keep up.

My brother in law is a semi regular on Gene Simmons Family Jewels.. He plays Genes financial partner or whatever the hell-Tony Roman and that whole show is scripted. First off that is not my brother in laws name and all those shows he was in are just written. Like the last one when he wanted Gene to be the Godfather to his daughters baby. My niece is 18 and does not have a boyfriend let alone a baby. Then the show where he introduces Gene to his sister and she turns out to be a drunk, well that is not my wife or any of her sisters.lol I only say this with amazement is because I do not talk to my brother in law and have not in years and how he wound up on this show has me stumped till today. To tell you the truth I dont think he could even name a KISS song.

o1GT Well there story lines and take a bit of truth and write a show around it. That season ending show was filmed in my brother in laws house and the only members of my family there were him his wife and my two nieces all those other people were extras. Please there was almost a family riot over it.lol Plus my Mother in law who passed away last month and had no idea who Gene Simmons even is would watch the show and be so pissed that they had her son looking like a clown. That part I enjoyed, lol But he tells my wife that Gene is a really great guy and treats him really good. When he came to the hospital he had on a really nice zip up jacket with the money bag logo that Gene had copyrighted. That I must admit was smoking.

No, I've not heard it. I was just reading about it in a guitar mag article on Ace ...

Thayer can sure get the early Ace style and sound!

No doubt ... the moves, the hair, the Les Paul, and ... unfortunately ... the solos. He is too much like Ace in my book. Disappointing - I would like to hear someone play some truly meaningful lead guitar (to me, that was Kiss' biggest weakness ... and still is, I guess).

Just my opinion...

Yes, he nails it spot on, the classic feel and sound of Ace's solos with a little more flair from time to time. If you get a chance to Youtube or "rock103.com/Memphis" and check out some of Ace's tracks. He does a great cover of Fox on the Run too.

That's a valid opinion, Ace had a "sound" that I thought was always good with the pounding, anthem like nature of KISS's music. There is no Clapton feel to it and I don't think there should be. That was never what they were aiming for. They were average songwriters that could come up with hooks that kept the songs in your head long after you heard them. Combine that with a big live show and you had a recipe for making them very rich off of people like me :D

I watched the first few episodes of the first season of this show and quickly lost interest. My son is the same age as Sophie and had a huge crush on her, how cool would that have been.

That is interesting to hear somne of the back story on the show to know just how scripted it really is.

I will say that the Simmons kids are pretty level headed when compared to so many other Hollywood brats.

I was as big a KISS fan as one could be from13to 17 so thats 75 to 79. Ace was a really big hero of mine and the shows in Madison Square Garden were events that till today stand the test of time for a rock concert in that larger than life way. I can remember when my friend Big Rob who really got me into playing lead guitar and the blues, said one day "You know Ace is not really that good a player" Well I was arguing like crazy till we broke out some albums and started breaking down some solos and yes he won the argument. I realized how far triplets and repetative licks could go and that he was doing was pretty simple especially since this was the dawn of the Vanhalen era and the 80s. But it never took away how much fun those KISS years were. I read an article with Gene and Paul where they said he never advanced his playing which I have to agree with. But that does not knock him down on the impact he had on me to want to play and a few million other guys. And for that reason I consider him a guitar legend.
