Sennheiser or Audio Technica are great audiophile quality phones at reasonable prices.

I have looked high and low for the KOSS headphones that I bought in 1976 and cannot find them. They were built like a tank and each side had a slider volume control. I know they must be here somewhere but I have searched to no avail.

Today I gave up the search in the cellar and went to a few local stores. I "almost" bought a pair of Sony at Staples but continued on to FYE (nothing worth mentioning there) and then to Radio Shack. The Shack had a pair (their marque) with volume controls for each side. I had to have them.

At $30 cost, they don't look super durable due to a rather thin cord so they will not be traveling but they will do what I need and that is to plug into the back of my 5 watt valve amp and practice noiselessly in the bedroom. They came with a gold plated plug and the ¼" adapter, also gold plated, to fit the amp.

I was surprised, the guitar sounds great through them. Just finished about an hour of practice. They could be a little more comfortable. Now I need about a 10 foot extension for them and I'll be golden. 8)

I own and use a pair of Sony MDR-XD200. Not the best I have ever used, but for the money (less than $100), you cannot beat them IMO. I use them for everything.

I'm sure everyone has their favorites. Senn's are nice but pricey $$$$.
I have a set of Sony MDR's and currently I am using Nady open airs.
Try some here and ther and see what works for you.
Good luck on whatever you go with. 8) -N
