Just wanted to tell you about a new Syd Barrett site just launched
http://www.sydbarrett.com

Arnold Layne is a fine bit of 60's pop, you can hear it on the site.

The Barrett family, (in particular Syd’s sister Rosemary Breen) are behind the site which is supportive of The Syd Barrett Fund, set up to raise funds for arts projects in the mental health sector.

That headline! Chose the quiet life!?!? I'll retire to bedlam!

Those of you who've seen the documentary "Which One's Pink" already know that Syd literally had an LSD cookout in his brain. The others tell of the recording of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" and Syd being in the control room unbeknownst to them. When they realized that there was someone they did not recognize, in the booth, it came as a totally shock to learn it was Syd.

Choice wasn't an option. He created in himself, a central nervous system cripple.

That invokes a disturbing yet wholly accurate mental picture.

Were it disturbing enough to potential substances abusers, Afghan farmers, for example, would be obliged to seek another livelihood, in that there would be no longer be any demand for their crop.

Yeah, but ... Afghan farmers don't grow LSD (D-Lysergic Acid Tartrate). They grow opium that is refined into narcotics.

He wasn't just a nut job. He got over all that just as Ronnie Montrose and Peter Green did way back as well as a slew of others.
He did retire and lived with his sister. He was a talented painted and liked to garden. Yeah he had some problems but I'd rather remember he as the talented musician and artist that he was. Nothing wrong with fading quietly away and enjoying what you want.
