Sitting here writing....listening to Austin City Limits.....Dave Matthews.
Why is it that I alway see and hear him when I see John Mayer....up to and including facial grimaces? :?
Presently Matthews is playing a sunburst Strat with a rosewood board in lieu of his acoustic.

......and all the ladies are googa too

john mayer modeled alot of what he does musically after Dave Mathews. so you kind of see similaritys in the two of them.

Sorry fans but I don't particularly like either one of them. Just my opinion and I know it means nothing.

Hello Doc,

That John Mayer is a pretty decent young man.
He actually played for a local High school Senior Prom
about 3 years back{Pennsbury High School}.

But those facial contorts, well my sons and myself
joke about it often.

Cheers.

I don't care for either as well but in terms of facial contortions, I think Joe Walsh has Trower beat.

I have always been aware of that modeling. It's been a 'thing' with me along with the SRV cloning. I would have preferred more individuality and originality in his performance persona. I respect 'unique'.

Ah!. I expect that we are now going to be obliged to suffer a litanny of visual guitar faces as one upsmanship ensues :? Well, that's what makes a ball game.

Don't worry, I don't know how to upload pictures and haven't the ambition to figure it out.

I was just observing how the direction of these threads often turn and run.

agreed

never understood ANY of the hype/hoopla for Dave Matthews. Talented yes, but vastly overrated.

When Mayer first broke with his acoustic singles I thought it was Dave Mathews. I would even go as far as saying he molded his early stuff directly after him. I am not a fan of Mathews so I will say I like the direction Mayer took after he made a name for himself.
