I am happy for a number of reasons but namely because Rio is deserving and will do an honorable job hosting the Olympics and World Cup also.

I Love Chicago but come on think about it! Chicago or Rio De Janeiro  Brazil has and economy that is doing better then ours which sucks and is getting worst. Olympics can bring a lot of torist money but it cost a lot to set up and build and prepair for it. Rio the carnival City and grand beaches, mountains.

Agreed and glad this was the response I got because I was worried about the backalsh I might get. Rio is one of the few global economies that has weathered the crisis. It only makes sense that they would host it. I can understand the pitch for the USA being a diverse place and it being a chance for us to showcase that, but Brasil is every bit as diverse as the USA is so far as their ethnic and cultural diversity. Others were saying that Rio is super dangerous and Chicago is not, which i disagree with also. Rio, and anywhere, can be dangerous but they successfully hosted the pan Am games in 07 with no issues. I have been both places and I felt no more safe in Chicago than I did in Rio, if anything I felt more unsafe in Chicago.

Congrats to Rio, well deserved and they will put on one of the greatest Olympics the world has ever seen.

I just don't see why we have a CLAIM to it and why people (Obama supporters and people in Chicago) are so upset. We hosted it not too long ago and we are in no economical position to host it now or in 2016. Not to mention we have to figure out how to MAKE money on it and research on the countries that host it shows they go through issues after hosting it. I think we and our President need to be worried less about hosting the Olympics and more focused on the issues at hand here and NOW.

I think the people that are the most upset are the President's friends in Chicago that would have lined their pockets if they had in fact been selected to host the games.
It's probably best for the city that they didn't get it. Most likely it would have bankrupted a faltering economy while the few connected elite pocketed millions.
A lot of people said before the election that Obama had some shadey connections. I'm starting to believe it after watching the way he went after the games.

Good. I didn't really want it to be in Chicago, except for the obvious economic reasons.

I read some where that Michelle was upset about the cold shoulder she was getting about Chicago and thats why Barack Hussein Obama jumped ship to get there in the hopes his wonderful talent of talk would win the day. He was about as succesfull there as he has been with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Iran.
Some of these world leaders are as afraid of him as they are of Mr. Potato head. and have no Faith!!!!
And your right Bill948 we tax payers paid for that trip in Air One!

I also think its great and offer my congrats to Rio. Its always nice when an American city is picked, but we dont have a monopoly on the games. Im sure they will do a fine job.

All's I know is that in 1997 I spent two weeks at a hotel on Rio's Copacabana Beach over Carnival. Let me tell you ... that was two AWESOME weeks.

Anything in Rio is a good thing in my book.
